and CG dancers have been part of the commercial and late night TV landscape,

of course there are many Japanese books -in Japanese about the world today's 'madness' and Japan's multifacted place in it.
There are probably some of these books on their current Best Sellers list.
Ryu Murakami's "Coin Locker Baby" and many of his novels dealt with Japan's peculiar situations.
Now we'll just have to see what the Japanese do when they take over the space station ...
