This is great! Is there any story behind the selections, or just because?

Thanks, all.

The story is just the sound I was after, I guess--trying to pinpoint this certain production style, atmosphere, texture, feeling that seems to hit me deeper (or at least more consistantly) than any other. An emphasis on the percussive, rhythmic (even if piano, not necessarily drums/beats). It didn't really fit, say, acoustic blues or early country or post early-80s electronic music too well. Slightly nocturnal, with a certain tension-and-release flow. I wanted to really build and fall but without ever losing any quality or intensity. Don't know how much of this I succeeded in---I cut down from about 100 artists that I thought had moments that fit what I was after, and had to make some hard cuts--the Meters, Autechre, Laurie Anderson, James Brown. I might do one more revision, so if anyone detects any weak points, let me know.

Here's a set I did on Resonance104.4FM, if your on an unusual mix.
impromptu set
This is a new noisy ambient type mix done as a filler while at the station, drifts off after about 40mins as I had to help setup the next laptop luvy doin the show after, still it does boast a nice redesign of slowdive's output, most tracks all fairly wide of their of their correct speed, obviously

Field/Bridge - Hazard
Tuning in - Linda Okeefe
The Seasons - Nye Parry
Losing Today - Slowdive
the wrong fuel - aarktica (aaron spectre remix)
deterior - greg davis
Golden Hair - Slowdive
Broken Home - Burial
Albatross -Slowdive
Blood & Fire (BongRa) DJ Scud remix
Cubatic Momo - Jamka
Junk Funk - Aphasic
Jason Lescalleet - from 'mattresslessness'
Angry - Skream
Biosphere - Autour de la lune

been listening to these whilst on a long motorway drive today - really enjoyed them - some great segue moments - prime cuts from herbie hancock and others, the jazz stuff is particularly high quality. didn't think the wire track or the marley track fitted with what was around them but that seems mean spirited in light of the generosity with which the mix has been offered.

cheers - made the M25 and A127 seem like a sinclair celestial highway (either that or the extra hour in bed)!

very nice... listening to it now. will give you detailed feedback later.

GOD I wish I still had the time to roll up a nice sack of the moist green buddha and make all the creative mixes I want... maybe over the holidays I'll take a couple of days out just to do this...

Making mixes is how I relax, after the average 9-10hr workday. This mix took sporadic moments over the course of a few months to put together.

Also, this mix is also kindof about how music is my drug--I don't do any other drugs, smoke, drink, etc. because music and sex pretty much do it for me.

I am about 1/3 way through the first one (had to take care of some BULLSHIT but now I'm back in the studio).

isn't that Gamelan track off of the Tribute to Wayan Lotring on Ocora? I have it in my indonesia piles.

I made a mix a few years ago that was quite eclectic... and it was more consistently moody, dark, and way out there.

some mash ups in there included the Holy Koran vs. Pan Sonic, Cage's Prepared Piano vs. Taylor Deupree, Armenian Duduk (flute) vs. Alva Noto. it also had this girl whispering through much of the mix. a real dreamy, ethereal, other-worldly piece... I should upload that for you guys...

It might be. I got it from one of those reissues of the old Nonesuch Explorer records.

Your mix sounds very cool. Moody and dark weren't really what I was going for, exactly, though certain sequences are probably those things. This music (mostly) makes me really happy, but I might just be strange.
