I like the LaaLee/Cristale song but it is definitely global-pop. Telling that Cristale is so much more striking than LaaLee on it (though he's a pretty limited talent so maybe it's not that telling)

Another one from Daan Chorus, (St Lucia) this time with Medz Boss (Trinidad) on a Middle Eastern tip



Makes a nice change from the usual bleak, dreary piano and guitar driven Trinidad sound.

Just speculation on my part, but seems like there's a new round of interaction between the Trinibad scene and JA, Medz Boss is back after a long absence and West Bank Records is doing stuff with Skillibeng. I like this new one, measured, floating, graceful almost. Hardcore ambient if you will.

Sure this is old as the hills news here but I like this a lot, although there's nothing distinctive about it at all really. Generic as fuck. But I like the way their different voices play off against each other.

This tune has blown up massively, 23 million views on YouTube! Must easily be the biggest tune of the year in dancehall.

That Rampage sounds la little '00s throwback, no? Maybe just the strings and not a bad thing, but interesting to note. I like it: the current scene could use an injection of drama.

Not exactly dramatic, but I really like Countree Hype's characteristically fleet production on Intence's "Raid"; the trap sound distilled down to little smears of sped-up hi-hats, while the rest of the drums are sprightly instead of heavy

Rampage does sound a bit 00s retro now you say it yeah. There was a good Skillibeng version of it too but it seems to have disappeared off YouTube now and doesn't seem to be on the official release so dunno what happened there.

Teejay soars on unmasked riddim I reckon - he puts out so much slushy rubbish but when he's got the right riddim he's one of my favourite singers of the last few years.

Raid's cool, hadn't heard it. Countree hype productions are always so classy, every little detail done just right.
