Hawkwind's Dave Brock actually wrote sleeve notes for the UK release of the first Neu! LP. Came out on United Artists, Hawkwind's label as did the first readily available Can releases I think.
"Music for mind and pants."

Did Dave Brock have something to do with Amon Duul II's UK record deal as well?

(Not a very interesting question, I know.)

There is a Hawkwind track that sounds just like Neu! called Oka-Loka or something - I forget what album it's on though. Other than that Shouldn't Do That is pretty good I guess.
Alien In New York by Daevid Allen is smart, kind of no-wavey or something, not at all prog. Sax over proto-house beats in a way, better than anything I've heard from Gong.

Divided Alien Playbax 80 is well No-Wavey. Actually bits of that LP would benefit from having a lot less Daevid Allen on IMO.

Yeah I've got that New York Gong LP. I think it's pretty much just Daevid Allen and Material, or Bill Laswell and co anyroads. I like the album Allen did with Kramer from Bongwater too.
Got the EP from that period, it's really cool I think, but yeah, Daevid Allen and Bill Laswell I think.

I was reading about someone quite recently who was not into modern music except ... gong
but try try try as i might i just cannot remember who it was!
some sort of well known public figure of the C20th - someone else must have read that same article?
i looked in internet history and still can't work it out, now it feels like maybe i dreamed it but why on earth would i dream about gong?
