Pitiless police persecute Plastic People. Punters pissed.

the wider strategy is that the arty/creative phase of the area has now served its purpose.

The way is now clear to turn Hoxton into a place for people who work in the City of London, who have different needs from the bohemians who currently live there. Or rather, are its most recent incomers.

It's true though, isn't it? It's gonna move to Hackney Wick - has already pretty much, and it just gets pushed out further and further. London's vibrant arts scene in Creekmouth.

I use Plastic People as a laboratory (b/c of its ideal sonic conditions) for musical storytelling. I play a wider range of music because of what i learn about musical presentation there. The patrons and staff, a family really, is one of the most honest ive encountered. That kind of dancefloor clarity-the ability to be discerning-is rare in most dancefloors of the world...to me that means security is thorough, and professional. There are no convulsing kids gritting their teeth with glow sticks in their hands.Thats simply not the clientele demographic., Theyre not letting the elements prone in the surrounding area of shoreditch to effect those who choose to attend plastic people.Again the environment makes the patrons richer musically. They are with you when you take risks, and get bored when you play it safe. It would be the reasoning of a fool that would consider this place dangerous, threatening, or a nuisance.

It's most certainly moved already. During the weekend, most (maybe not all) of Hoxton/Shoreditch serves the same purpose as the West End of a few years back. Most stuff that inhabited Shoreditch has moved to spaces in Dalston up to Stoke Newington, through London Fields/Cambridge Heath/Hackney Downs to Hackney Wick.
Go to a Shoreditch bar on a Friday night and you'll almost certainly hear city boys giving people directions on their mobile towards the "city east".
The prolonged demise of The Foundry pretty much symbolises the larger process happening in the area.

shoreditch has been a no go zone for well over 6 years.... you lot are weird.... i dunno why you go there/
couldnt care less about pp beyond general 'its bad when peoples buiness goes bust' feelings. to me its like a new bar rhumba or something, or blue note. polite but dull punters, dull music. dont want to see it close but im not upset.

shoreditch is of course execrable (tho less so than it used to be, since many unmentionables moved to bethanl green and dalston). But PP is amazing even if you don't like dubstep, 'cos of its sound system and the general vibe.

the sound system is fine, but the end had a good system too and that was a pretty dull club as well.

I used to love Trash at The End - great music, great sound, and as an added entertainment bonus you could watch the preening ninnies who made up a large proportion of the punters. And it was cheap, and not really druggy so it was doable on a school night...good times.

while i fully support the cause (even though i live across the pond and never been), i sometimes wonder if these types of petitions generally accomplish anything. i guess they serve a purpose of spreading a word, which is an important step...but at the end of the day, i wonder if the number of signatures actually have an actual impact on a issue. just curious.

maybe there's a city official sitting in an office somewhere reviewing petitions, saying "this one has only 356 signers, forget it...ah, this one has 795 signatures, we'll have to go along with their point of view, then."

I know what you mean, but I think Southampton Art Gallery was saved from sale by a similar petition, but I guess that was publicly owned, so maybe the council had to pay more attention.

In general I agree with you, but this petition has been set up by the venue itself and will form part of their case to Hackney Council re: licencing.

So it is a bit different from the usual "I think Gordon Brown should bring back hanging" nonsense.

It's far worse now the artsy people have moved on. Hipsters over bankers every time

Agree in principle, but some of the hipsters probably are bankers too.

Worse for the communities who originally lived in either of those places.
