Blackdown you played an amazing darkstar tune on rinse about a year ago, is that gonna be on the album? i think it was 'automating' but it sounds diffrent to the version darkstar gave away this year..

Yay, anticipation went up some notches again, can't wait to hear it.
Although, as my hopes for this are continuously rising again, they're bound to get crushed I fear....
curse the self hype. I really must learn to be more zen like... already ruined a perfectly good Mt Kimbie album for meself.

2nded,

I'm still getting my head around this album. The vocals sound a bit like the Junior Boys or something.
That is a good thing right?

it's absolutely awful. and please stop with the JB's comparisons, unless you're referring to their later stuff. They died after Last Exit.

Regarding JBs... I definitely agree they dropped off after Last Exit. Second and third albums still have some good moments, but it lost something somehow...

yeah, right. when johnny dark stopped doing the beats they went significantly worse.

but back to Darkstar, how the hell did this pass the A&R filter? I'm a chronic hyperdub fanboy and this album just feels soooo wrong.

quite like what ive heard of this so far. reminded me a bit of yeah, junior boys, as well as hot chip in places, but also the solo album made by one of the guys from air that came out a few years back. can see this album getting a lot of indie kid love.

ahh, a little worried about junior boys comparisons. hopefully this isn't too sappy.

looking forward to the john roberts remix, one of my favorite house producers right now.

Another co-sign here for the Junior Boys losing the plot a bit, though I thought that there were a couple cuts of that album Morgan Geist did with the singer that were quite good. Excited for this Darkstar LP, but cautiously so. I don't really know what to expect.

At what point does a label owners dedication to that labels musical direction get muddied by the artists going off on a tangent?

So Kode9 loves the earlier work of Darkstar and sends them off to record an album, they come back telling him about a change of line up, a new singer and present him with a CD chock full of JB tinged indi-fodder. It has to be an uncomfortable moment as he looks into their little glowing hope-filled faces whilst listening to it in his big label boss chair, elbows on the Simon Cowell-style desk he's just had installed, fingers steepled in front of his face.

Not heard it yet mind, maybe its fucking awesome.

I've not heard the album so this is purely speculation but I'm sure Kode 9 would be happy that they've given him an album that isn't just straight up dubstep. More likely for Burial style psuedo-popularity amongst the Guardian crowd..?

I'm looking forward to this album a bunch though - I loved their Videotape cover and I've heard inklings the album is in a similar vein...
