The Breakage and El-B collabs were sub par. Just felt like someone trying to make a Burial tune and doing it badly.

The Goldie collab was interesting. It actually felt like a collab rather than an exterior source watering down Burial's sound.

I really like the Four Tet tunes. They don't come close to Burial's solo material though.

(The El-B one is a collab btw. For some reason El-B didn't put his name on it on the album. Probably because it's shit.)

Ah Corpsey since you posted that it’s prompted me to listen to that Burial/Kode 9 mix again. Except the crappy Zomby tune at the start, that whole mix is amazing, some don’t like the rain/sampling over the top but I think that really adds to the atmosphere (I could imagine this set in a club with loads of fucking psychedelic/dark/saw film type visuals on the walls and on the ceiling, proper fuck people up), also the tune selection after that (bar the zomby, cooly g one and a couple after the prince tune) is fucking top form. The prince tune I especially love.

Edit, and I fucking LOVE the theo parrish one. SICK

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like a lot of the soul jazz output is producer's offcuts. I seldom hear anything they put out that is anything like the top of the producer's output apart from a few years ago with the misty winter/earth a run red/ladybug 12s. Constantly underwhelmed by their output within the 'bass continuum'

I agree, even the 2nd box of dub release was weak.

seconded. though box of dub 2 had that ramadanman track which was amazing (every second day?). prob doesnt help that they seem to pick stuff that fits more with the rootsier/archival/just old stuff in their catalogue.

thats a really lazy tracklisting tbh. i suppose its alright if they are just going for a greatist hits 08-09 kind of thing but still

if you want a comp that introduces you track by track to a hard to pin down genre, with no hits, and not much in the way of presence it's a really great comp.
