Falklands / Malvinas

So I like to think that I'm not normally a mindless swallower of neo-imperialist propaganda, but the Falklands have got me beat.

As far as I can see, the Argentinian position boils down to
a) we want them and
b) Britain is an inherently colonial power and Argentina is an inherently anticolonial power (please don't talk about Patagonia), hence if we forcibly assume sovereignty over a group of people against their wishes in a territory where those people and their ancestors have historically been the only non-military population then this is an act of decolonisation.

Am I missing something?

Darned cockwombles.
Can't we just give it to the puffins? The world's first sovereign puffin state. It's something to aim for.

I don't think it's out of order to let the people there decide who they want to be part of. Yes it's odd that a little island down there wants to be part of Britain but until it wants to be part of Argentina it should stay as it is surely. If they want to go over to Argentina at any point then that's fine.

In principle that's fine, but playing devil's advocate, if Argentina shipped 10,000 colonists there and they lived on the beaches for a few years, would it be valid when they then voted to become part of Argentina?

If the Argentinians sent over a couple of ships full of several thousand women, old people and kids they'd have more chance of landing, holding and winning the plebiscite than sending the same number of troops. Good plan.
