exactly. most turkish folk released these days when it tries to symphonise or modernise becomes like aural wall paper to uphold a nominal notion of conservatism. gone are the days of listening to the angelic voice in a smokey back street cafe wondering how to make hope out of turmoil. it's literally got to the point of a relatively rapid cataclysm in the mode of production or nothing. otherwise everything is ruthlessly subsumed. people have fears about artificial intelligence and they can't see that the forces dominating us are neither human nor machine but vampire. we need to leave these romantic notions at a cross roads. luckily we have an unprecedented archive of past music to study.

I think I personally last had a feeling towards the end of the '90s. Somewhere around then, maybe early '00s. Hard to say exactly.

Sounds about right and probably true for many. I'd love to know what happened to us around then.

Yeah well they'll catch up in about five years. Just a time lag. Centre and periphery thing.

100%. Turkey finished. finished in the mid 00s whereas in this country probably late 90s. South America will finish soon as well. look at those diaspora kids in the states slapping a few loops over the 4-4 house template. that's the future. anything else is world music snobbery.

That bad trip I had felt, I think I've said before, as though we had crossed a threshold as a species and that a private, sacrosanct interiority, a personal inviolate chapel of the self, had become impossible.

+ this is probably my ignorance showing but I've never heard any *painful* or heart wrenching music from Brazil. they all seem to be in our 1992. I'm not sure how. their sound world and the structure of the music doesn't really allow for agony.

Sorry, this is essentialising as fuck lol. like i said, ignorance and maybe some internalised prejudices. fucking wicked rhythms though.

Crowleyhead said the same thing. He said all those Latin people know how to do is dance and have a party they don't know how to feel sad. Always fatuously happy.

I have a few comps. one is called samba soul 70. should really be retitled samba funk 70, if they are invoking the non-afrolatin black american diaspora.

So the problem is people still making impersonations of a feeling soul without actually having a feeling soul. We hear them doing these weird parrot routines and think, what you doing that for. There's nothing there. It's not referring to anything. Imagine someone piously intoning A Love Supreme in his day and age. You'd break out in hives.

Craner isn't ready for his thread. It's over his experience level. He'd say something about liking white wine and sheepskin rugs and French kisses and that that's what soul means or something.

It's weird he like jungle cos otherwise he's very much anti intensity. He likes the veneer. The surface. The gloss. The glamour. Artifice and fashion.

He'd say Luke what on earth do you mean it's impossible to fall in love. He's pretending it's still 1982 and he owns a brand new sports car. Fantasy land.

Strange arbitary tag rules. No logic. I like it though. Not great tags on this thread really so far.
