I've not a leg to stand on, no doubt third will excoriate me for liking Carly Rae and not liking this but what can I say

Just can't get into that hyper EDM sound at all

Maybe it's years of muting football highlight videos that have put me off it

Well I respect your willingness to have an opinion. The rest of dissensus hedging their bets. They don't want to go down in history as the men who didn't like Skrillex

Where R U now gives me the authentic undeniable rush

I know how good it is cos I hate Diplo and I quite hate Bieber - it overpowers that all when it drops

Don't get a rush with that other stuff and because it's trying so hard to excite one it makes me feel dead inside instead

This is so bland, it's like the soundtrack to one of those videos where a yank backpacks around the Andes and does their own drone shots

This is a good line tbf credit where it's due im always scrupulously fair

I think this thread is partly about a topic that's been popping up everywhere on here which is what does sounding modern mean in 2019?

In that Sophie thread e.g. I proclaimed like Moses that what I liked about that shit was how hyper modern it sounded.

Yes, you're right. That's a big part of it. The funny thing is that this music is ten years old. The comments are full of nostalgia for lost youth.

Tbh I do find the making of retro jungle and hardcore in the 2010s fundamentally wrong, retrograde, stagnant. Especially as doing so assumes being limited to a well worn pallette. An off the shelf kit rather than an expanding toybox.

So I suppose I'm as modernist as that.

I liked when you and version were saying conceptronica sounded like the transformers movies. But this stuff predates it by a decade. As always the drones trudging behind a decade afterwards.

You've got me listening to this now u cunt

I watched a bit of his live show. Hard to believe anyone was on drugs, except they probably all were. Weird.

The first stuff I heard like that was probably Spor, Noisia etc, all that dnb that sounds like a metal tiger.

I KIND OF get what you mean re it being more technicolour and "nutty" than dubstep "proper" but otoh it isn't REALLY nutty, it's a squares impersonation of a nutbag, it's redolent of frat bros doing jello shots and poking their tongues out for the crash zoom (out). X Factor meets Harmony Korine.

It's actually all twinkly and sweet, as you say like sugar drinks.

You'd never admit to liking Coki ofc but Coki is basically this music but genuinely a bit unhinged and offensive. Also he did it first.

of course, the pop arena is where luke thinks he's in touch with the masses. except dubstep was dead in london when skrillex got big, even for your casual pop music fan, noone was having any of it. it would be like banging on about how it was great that reprezent won the mercury prize.

Coki is a drab monochrome version with doctor who special effects. This is high definition Hollywood product. The real thing.

yeah but hollywood is no longer gangsta. it's about nerd existentialism now. inception and shit like that. films are no longer lumpen.

I would put him on the timbaland level of importance. The world-spirit astride it's horse, embodied in human form.
