Really? Oh sorry. I thought that JE genuinely thought that MT thought that the Caribbean should have the death penalty.

Well it would be good if Tea could clarify this, certainly. If it’s all internet japes then I guess that’s slightly more understandable.

I'm not that bothered about the honorifics - the legal stuff is more troubling though. As leader of the Labour Party the only thing he's done so far that I've really disliked is cede ground to Labour Friends of India on Kashmir and say it's a matter to be settled internationally, rather than sticking up for the people there. This means giving ground to Modi. My main objection to Corbyn was similar, the lack of critique of - and collusion with - authoritarian states - though the Kashmir issue is on a smaller scale thing so far and much less visible to Western commentators.

Am enjoying seeing him give Johnson a proper pasting though.

With the legal stuff my main issues are him deciding that nobody be prosecuted for the deaths of Charles de Menezes and initially Ian Tomlinson.
Fine, that's a criticism of concrete things that he's done. I've got no problem with that and actually agree that they count against him. It's a bit different from slagging him off for receiving an award - which was not after all his own decision - for being good at his job and achieving some things that I'd have thought any reasonably progressive person would regard favourably.

People turn these things down all the time. He didn’t. He chose a side.

I guess symbolic things like this matter more to some people than to others. It doesn't particularly bother me but it may be a decision he ends up regretting if a sufficiently large number of people feel the way you do about it.

He looks like a drinker to me. The sort of alcoholic who governs their drinking with rigid rules. Nothing before 6pm for instance. He's grotesquely soft and fleshy in the facial. Strikingly red and blotchy. But more than that there's a softness, a flabbiness and an unfocused quality. A squiffy, goggle eyed quality.

There's no force or fervour there. He performs his tasks with the earnest diligence of a schoolboy. He works to counter the guilt of those booze sodden nights. In a cold sweat of shame and remorse. Gin on the breath. Pockets full of mints.

Off-topic, I just read a blog post by a sometime poster who basically made the 'workaholic to counter the guilt of alcoholism' claim about themselves.

But yeah, Starmer......what to say? He's a not-too-dangerous pair of hands for if/when the populus realise that they Torys have gone fucking mental. That's it really.

If it's the same one that's what inspired that line actually. Gave me insight into Starmers situation.

I don't follow your politics closely enough to have an option but that's pretty funny.

It's a great pun but he's not really "Remain and Leave", is he? More like "Remain and Remain".
