35 degrees with clear blue skies would have been a very different proposition. but it was gloomy and murky and very hot like a poisonous planet too close to the sun. like living on Venus.

My hypothesis is that lockdown has proved to Londoners that we don't really like each other very much

Also loads of hard men are increasingly used to people stopping in doorways etc to let them past. It must be intoxicating

different areas of London feel different to one another but by and large i've felt loads of love out on the streets. tension but not interpersonal tension.

i think it's there as a potential, in the way in some places across the world this is or that immigrant group has been scapegoated.

Getting relatively dark at 7.45pm. Leaves have fallen off the trees down my road.

Summer swallowed whole by this virus.

Boo.

- I was walking in the park yesterday, from which you can see the shard and various other skyscrapers on the horizon. And I thought to myself how they look so distant now. Not just geographically, but temporally. That central London is now just a memory. You know that it's not functioning as it usually does. And because you can't even travel there anymore, it's like some sort of ancient ruin. The shard has become (for a few months at least) a pyramid.

Without being callous about all the suffering this has caused and continues to cause, do you think the lockdown has been a stimulus to the imagination? For example, you'd never have imagined looking at London like this a year ago. Except in a sort of post apocalyptic fantasy. But this is a mass experience, beyond any tv show or film.

I wonder if more Ballard books have been selling lately. He seems like he might be the man of the moment.

Well obviously if you change your conditions and routine and frame then you change your perceptions and ideas etc. So yes.

This is why Burroughs says Reality is a constant scanning pattern. We've collectively and individually reconfigured our scanning pattern.

I was going to say last night (I was stoned, feeling very profound) that trauma is a learning experience, and that this is partly why acid teaches us things, because even when it's very enjoyable it's traumatic.

Perhaps I don't mean traumatic, but *alienating*.

if you read, as you should, the famous poem 'prediction tablet' you will see this notion spelled out
