I would love to hear you breakdown some linguistic subcultures
Sure, sure

There is Weird Sun twitter, where everyone talks at the meta-level and you aren't allowed to be concrete. All their names are things like Member of Species and Handle of Concept.

There is rationalist twitter, where everyone shares their positivist theories and talks about xrisk; they do things like the "double crux" maneuver in conversations, going into minute excruciating detail to understand one another's positions

There is philosophical twitter, which is mostly composed of question-asking and puns on ancient Greeks and bitching about how your field isn't taken seriously

There is Kantbot twitter, where everything is postironic and in caps and name-dropping German idealists gets you cultural capital

There is NYC media twitter, which is mostly self-deprecation mixed with status flexes, gaybois do very well here they get lots of followers by being like GIRL, that is a party foul!!

This isn't a very good ethnography tbh, I don't spend much energy on any of these scenes, but I bump into them and see them on the TL from time to time

Pro Europe. Instead of leaving Europe, we should be striving to lead Europe. Any Briton who says differently is a defeatist/traitor Crime Minister Johnson.

twitter becomes much less stressful when you view it as a place to hang out with homies, look at drawings of pretty boys and have your faith in JAH mutually strengthened and decisively not as a platform for the discussion of serious topics nor the launching/maintenance of avantgardes

This is the problem, I don’t really participate I’m just looking at the feed for news and takes, so I mainly just see tweets that get the most engagement where this clipped forced conversational style dominates

yeah i know thats why i was helping you by collecting a few examples of different modes of engagement

thank you. well i suppose maybe i didnt explain it. but i was thinking about if we can analyse tweets in the way we can analyse tabloid headlines or clickbait or email subject lines. how certain styles are favoured and how that feeds into our thinking beyond the platform

Please dont respond with anything too interesting i have work to do

we can of course but first we need to develop your understanding of twitter which is actually a fantastic menagerie compirsed of every variety of square, freak and bot

Summary: Twitter Statistics
There are 330 million monthly active users and 145 million daily active users on Twitter. 63 percent of all Twitter users worldwide are between 35 and 65. The ratio of female to male Twitter users is roughly one to two: 34 percent female and 66 percent male

well yes its the bubble that pisses me off isnt it, its not presented to me as a fantastic menagerie of diverse birdsong its the same pigeons and their same shit every day
