Anyone watching? I don't think I've ever been able to deliberately follow an Olympic Games, I forget it's on and just stumble across certain events on TV or in the news.

The first one I remember being aware of is Sydney 2000 with that boomerang logo. I think that's actually the only one I can remember tbh, partly because it was incorporated into whatever we were doing in school at the time and partly because I've never really watched the Olympics.

there were only 3 channels then and no internet. and the olympics was on during the endless days of the summer holidays.
you would watch for hours. and Britain had its heroes, steve backley, linford christie, colin jackson and his perpetual understudy tony jarret, steve black, kelly holmes, kriss akabusi, johnathan edwards, sally gunnel, john regis

I've never quite clicked with the events which are just a single action; javelin, discus, high jump etc. I can appreciate the work and skill that goes into it, but find it difficult to get excited about.

its partly/largely the drama created by having that one action to nail and win or lose i guess isnt it
heres his last throw of the night he has to get 90 metres or beyond

one of the best sports events me and craner have ever seen was the titanic long jump clash between (relatively unheralded) mike powell and (superstar legend) carl lewis during which the world record (which had stood unchallenged for roughly 30 years) was broken with almost every jump so you have a continual upping of the ante

They've added skateboarding now. It's kind of cool, I guess, but I don't like that side of skating much. The X-Games sort of thing with people skating vert and plastered in energy drink sponsors.

Basketball's funny. Everyone else vs. the US, who get to put together a super team of the best NBA players every four years.

thats bullshit. it should be for things like airsoft pistol shooting and cross country skiing

those events which helped create the special brand of lassitude and ennui that defined life in the eighties and early nineties

I had a Winter Olympics Sega game that had this bizarre event where you had to ski for a bit then shoot stuff with a rifle then ski again.

Think I prefer the Winter Olympics; I like the snow and the events are more exciting. I'd much rather watch skiing, snowboarding or bobsled than pretty much anything in the Olympics. You do still get the weird shit like curling though. Insane that that's a professional sport.

There are big names in snowboarding and stuff, but yeah. Someone like Shaun White doesn't have the visibility of a Michael Phelps.

I don't think I actually like eating at all tbh. It may just be that I eat terrible food, but I don't think I really enjoy eating anything. I hate getting food on my hands, stuff stuck in my teeth etc and the feeling of having eaten isn't great. I just feel lethargic and a bit heavier after a meal.

That being said, this may all be coloured by the fact I ate a horrible pizza earlier and I'm still suffering for it.
