New Rap

kendrick was v good. brought sadlers wells to glasto. shame he did that old rap gig cliche of dividing the audience up to see which side was the best etc, but other than that, it was kind of unlike most rap shows ive ever seen, except maybe the time kanye headlined glasto. but then ive not been to a big rap show in years so who knows. is interesting to see him bring that whole theatrical, choreographed/contemporary dance-influenced approach to live hip hop, as well as the fact he keeps his ultra serious, composed presence the whole time. appreciated the fact he did something interesting with a band in terms of the arrangements too.

luka both your comments are as the youts say cap because i know it wouldn't take you much to be into it and being buddy buddy with everybody around you lol

The thought of you sitting in your yard listening to The Ownerz on CD trying to convince yourself that you're having a good time is KILLING me

it's tired but if it ain't broke don't fix it,i think he didn't have all that it would've been a much drier and more difficult experience what with how dense his music tends to be

but also lets face it this is Glastonbury so the fact he's doing all this aswell as having band arrangements in the mix is clearly a way to get some of that lot into rap who never would think of themselves as fans of it

i was surprised how many ppl were rapping along in the audience (also, and feel free to call me sexist, how many women were rapping along).

i think the show was enough of a spectacle to give you something to look at but not so distracting that it took away from kendrick.

at home it sounded great (i loved the slightly diff arrangements, they were pretty subtle and clever), idk how it would have sounded being there, i.e the prob i have with a lot of live rap, is you cant hear the words that well, which is esp important for someone like kendrick. also surprised, and idk why actually, how many 'hits' he has.

for that, i think DAMN has more highpoints (any album with DNA and humble is going to be hard to top) even if its not as strong an 'album' (but id prefer just to hear a great set of songs from him than another big arching concept personally). still not heard the new one but that first single sounded like a bit of a mess.

i put the issue with not hearing the words quite well down to engineers who might not be used to mixing or working with rappers so they don't have the understanding that they have different sonic requirements and priorities compared to a rock band also i don't think you're sexist Glastonbury has always had a peculiar relationship with rap ontop of the overall relationship between Britian and the US as far as rap and the culture of it.

i'm surprised to hear that you root for DAMN cause yeah alot of people feel like that's a weaker effort from him

if @shakahislop is awake i'd be interested to know what he thought of it since he's down there(and that is if he even went to go see Kendrick and not putz about with something else)

on a related note by right i should've gone to at least ONE Wireless festival because Finsbury Park isn't that far but alot of the artists they have on the line up i just don't care for

it was genuinely one of the best things i've ever seen. sleep deprivation and being with a class group of people might have helped a lot but i found it euphoric and meaningful

on a different note i'd be interested to know what some people in here think of Vory, i wasn't sure whether to put this in new rap or Kanye since he's on DONDA and a pretty big collaborator of Kanye's so why not pass it on

what i've heard is ok i've seen some people say that he made a Post Malone album which i can't really speak on because i don't want to listen to him to confirm but i saw somebody compare his singing style to Tracy Chapman which had me laughing cause i can hear it

see here's a perfect example @luka as far as me advocating something from the outside part of the expectation of me tossing something like this on here is in part the expectation that you or somebody on here is gonna find this amazing and fascinating
