I don't really have any advice to give to you, find the idea of trying to sell individual records (rather than job lots of rubbish as mentioned up thread) through ebay a bit weird - discogs is the market, it's where you are most likely to find a buyer for a particular record due to the wantlist system they employ

thanks, @Rudewhy. yeah, I was leaning towards discogs. I can already foresee the headaches of lost shipments, insurance claims, etc., but it's literally a friend's dying wish, so will just dive in.

I've never done it but I think you can list things on ebay and discogs... maybe you're not meant to but I'm pretty sure I see people doing it.

sure, but that means paying more attention to taking down one listing when it sells on the other. too much effort!

It depends on what you/they are trying to achieve in selling them. Do they just want help to get rid of cumbersome chattel that's lost it meaning somewhat. Or are they looking to cash in on an investment for some reason.

Also, are you willing to make a long term commitment to selling them, or would you rather get it done asap.

If you want a quick turn around ebay is probably the answer. The higher value pieces could be sold separately and hopefully bring attention to the less in demand stuff that could even be listed in lots, depending on the quantity you're having to shift.

With Discogs you can set the price, so hopefully will get the best return but some may well sit there unsold for months as you take on a steady trickle of trips to the post office whilst dealing with demanding buyers.

thanks, @Trillhouse. I'm only selling about 20 or so relatively collectable 7" singles, things currently listed on discogs for between $50 and potentially thousands. For than many records, I don't mind occasional individual trips to the post office, which is only two blocks away. It's sort of a cash in situation but not in a super rush to unload. That said, I'm not going to hold out for top price, will be priced to sell. For example, if similar items are priced $50-75, I wouldn't mind posting it for $35-40.

Finally getting around to selling my late friend's records. I'm starting with his hardcore (as in US punk) 7" singles, some of the Discogs prices are insane:

Minor Threat "In My Eyes" red vinyl: lowest $75, median: $1,000, highest $1,900
Minor Threat "Filler" with blue sleeve: lowest $350, median $600, highest $1,500.
Bad Brains "Pay to Cum" generic sleeve: lowest $50, median $170, highest $700
YDI "A Place in the Sun": lowest $175, median $300, highest $600
Deep Wound ep: lowest $420, median $520, highest $700
Necros "IQ 32": lowest $150, median $200, highest $350
