that's hilarious, hard wax today posted in Instagram that 1-4 is out: https://hardwax.com/00737/hoover1/hoover1-4/

That's were I got aware of this. HW is my go-to techno newsfeed. Didn't even know the Shed alias before.

That said, I always check the website. HW on instagram seems all wrong to me. I remember their physical mailouts as it was yesterday. I also think HW was the last online record store to have digital downloads. They are so oldschool it hurts, but bliss for a semi luddite like me

it wasnt explicitly rejected on those terms but there were racial, identity elements at play. this isnt our music. same with all that proceeded from jungle. for people outside london the music asked more of you. there was a crowd and a culture to align with, or not.

Which is why the two decent cities for dance music have been london (out to essex and romford/hitchen) and sheffield. Bristol has had its moments but like Leeds you can grow up listening to post-rock bands and never hear a Jah Shaka or joey beltram record in your life. Anglos are too obsessed with their subjective identities. I never have to make that choice because the londoners who are into whiteboy shit exclusively are northern and Scottish immigrants. Either that, or fact mag rap.

90s techno utopianism seemed to be more international and shooting for an escape from identity, or maybe a lust for pulverisation or some vague misanthropy or something. what are you saying to the world when you love techno?

Exactly the same as jungle. Jungle precisely lost its way when people started chatting up its British credentials as if it wasn't full of ideas from Belgium, America and Jamaica. It was always a london thing, never a UK thing, even if some of its most seminal producers (krust, doc scott, l double etc) weren't actually from London. Then you got shit like This yeh mate, fucking British I'll kick yer mug in. Dire. For better or worse, garage and techno have fared better re: the long haul, although some of these new jungle techno producers like worldwide epidemic are sick. proper punchy production. Also check my man Phineus 2 if you want the uncanny valley time dialation effect.

you wanted to make a statement in 90s England you would be Harry Love from the Scratch Perverts, Luke's favourite geezer. Remember house music ruined everything, and by nature that includes hardcore and jungle. MC Duke, criminal minds, blaps possy, all come out of UK hh!
