    COINBASE for Crypto has come

but isnt this notion one of the prime motivating factors behind the creation of crypto - the idea that we can build a financial system which is completely independent of the one that exists currently?

    Wuhan Killer Sneeze (thanks Tea)

I realise that this thread is probably a bad place to discuss covid, but it does seem pretty crazy that over 6 million ppl might have died globally bc of a lab leak due to an ultimately unnecessary research programme into a virus that originally killed three ppl.

    COINBASE for Crypto has come

so the direct rails are to ethereum? ethereum is therefore a kind of obfuscatory asset into which I can "launder" my illegal gains. but this just moves the regulatory focus to ethereum directly. or wherever. the point is that eventually you need to move your money out of crypto and into the...

    COINBASE for Crypto has come

in a sense, this is a measure of crypto's success - it's starting to matter, and therefore the state needs to exert some measure of control

    Wuhan Killer Sneeze (thanks Tea)

    Russia Surrounded

yes but it's not simply a question of whether retaliation against Russia is justified but rather whether that retaliation is likely to result in nuclear war. after all, you could imagine a similar convo post invasion of iraq. why shouldn't we bomb american positions, isnt it all equivalent...

    Russia Surrounded

it's not actually true, for starters. they defaulted twice in the 90s, I think. I doubt it's massively significant either, it's already cut off from funding markets but Russia can obvs access foreign currency anyway since everyone is still buying its exported oil and gas

as long as russia respect this distinction then we're ok

    Russia Surrounded

what were relying on really is the idea that if we send arms and advisors to the Ukraine in order to enable them to kill more russians, its somehow different to doing it ourselves

    Russia Surrounded

I agree with him. at some point though, were going to have to accept the fact that the war will only end when russia and ukraine sit round a negotiating table and make concessions. in the mean time, we are flooding Ukraine with weapons and making the conflict as deadly as possible, essentially...

    Contemporary libido

it's almost so obvious its crass to point out but sex is heavily mediated by the internet, social media and streaming platforms. it's not just that people are having less sex, but that the meaning has changed
