    Who are your favourite philosophers?

like I said that's not really what he was talking about but one interesting thing is how backmasking was at the center of all that Tipper Gore/PMRC bullshit in the 80s classic rock and metal bands with all their supposed backwards subliminal messages telling teens to worship Satan and/or kill...

    Who are your favourite philosophers?

idk backmasking and reversing stuff seems like a relatively common technique in pop music if there are enough novelties at a certain point it's no longer a novelty

know that I think about it, in re philosophy and funk you could definitely link George Clinton's version of James Brown's "The One" to monism James Brown=Socrates, Bootsy=Plato, George=Aristotle on hella drugs (not in terms of monism, just as originators of the philosophy of funk)

"so when the track come on it's backwards...I'm trying to play it off like I knew what the fuck was happening...so I start talking, this story of a famous dog"

    Who are your favourite philosophers?

that line immediately me me think of playing things backwards as a studio or DJing technique Macca's backwards guitar solo on "Tomorrow Never Knows" the story about an off his face George Clinton improvising "Atomic Dog" over a rewinding tape so they just left it that way Ron Hardy famously...

    Who are your favourite philosophers?

@suspendedreason @beiser thx obv he didn't "solve art" but you've elucidated the basis on which such a (presumably only half-serious) hyperbolic claim could be made I had no idea he was such a key figure (it seems) in the shift from a modern to postmodern conception of art you've convinced me...

I mean that's the logical conclusion of yr whole music as erogenous punishment line ain't it surrender to The Mover or whoever pounding you relentlessly, let your body be jacked, surrender to the groove sublimation of the individual to the collective eternal groove, become a disco cyborg in...

surrender to sodomy is a beautiful sentiment - surrender yourself to the collective organal energy, let down yr barriers, be vulnerable the key point is surrender, not sodomy, but sodomy is an ideal metaphorical way of expressing it all the loaded meaning, associations, taboos, creates one of...

yeah I took it to be essentially a British toff version of Karens those kinds of archetypes are of limited use anyway leaving aside whether or not they're slurs themselves, they make the focus the pejorative rather than the behavior being called out that's exactly why we need to get...

"surrender to sodomy" is a pretty great phrase, definitely. the imperative alliteration of it. hard to think of a phrase that better evokes this

    Choon of the Day

on a serious note tho I don't wanna promote anyone having to "surrender" any of their sexual autonomy even in a joking sense (unless they want to, of course) as a metaphor, OK, but I suppose the graphic description crosses a line not that I want to ruin the banter, but I'd feel like I was...

more like a state of mind that produces a specific kind of art, if I understand it correctly i.e. you could have surrender to sodomy paintings or whatever, thought I'd have to think about what that means/what they are

I think of it as EBM, New Beat and related things are in of a continuum of slow dark hard sexy dance music maybe not a true continuum in the way the nuum or the NY disco-postdisco-house continuum is with the same producers carrying over but a sonic continuum it's the slow dance dark cousin of...

if you do EBM wrong it can go very wrong, you can pretty quickly wind up at Rammstein

well like anything it depends where exactly you want to draw the boundary on "EBM", and "canon" I'd call Neon Judgement more fellow travelers, like a Belgian take on Suicide but whether you include them or not, the real point is that compared to most things it's vanishingly small like an...
