Suggest a Book for the dissensus book club!

My copy arrived today! Will start reading this weekend. Just finished Zoe Whittall's 'The Best Kind of People' btw. It's a very different book, all about how a family deals with the accusation that the father is a child rapist. It's slow and a bit redundant in places but I would still recommend it.

Excuse me, but I have stories. Stories of vaccines gone awry. And those stories, they're from my friends. How dare you.

Thanks, droid :) I'd like to change my nomination to Zoe Whittall's 'The Best Kind of People'. Sounds more scandalous!

So, update on Ira -- This is the most stripped down book I have ever read. I love efficient writing and would say JCO and Shirley Jackson are fantastic examples of this, expertly indulging at the right times for the desired effect. But Ira, wow. Things are more than efficient; they are basic. It...

    Halloween Reading

It's a fun movie and almost has a Black Moon vibe to it. Suichi didn't seem any more of an ass to me than he did in the manga. Still slightly suffocating and self-important. Keeping with tradition that even in the midst of the supernatural, gender roles remain stuck in reality. Which, for me...

I just got Ira Levin's 'The Stepford Wives' :) Loved the movie for ages but never read the book. Recently read Jelinek's 'The Piano Teacher' after loving the movie forever and was sooo impressed. Jelinek's a treasure! Hoping for the same with Levin.

After I read Enigma I jumped into his Uzumaki. The first volume was amazing, the second made me wish he had stopped at 1, and the third kinda redeemed itself. In any case, would still recommend it! ALSO, there's a MOVIE! - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/uzumaki/

Zylpha Snyder's 'The Egypt Game' has nice Halloweeny vibes. All about play, ancient Egypt and a child serial killer :) It's true. And the treatment is wonderful and beautifully written. It's YA so you could easily burn through it in an afternoon too. Real treat.

What a good idea! I've always enjoyed Alvin Schwartz and in particular, 'In a Dark, Dark Room' and 'The Green Ribbon'. Angela Carter's 'The Bloody Chamber' too. Everything in it.

Delta of Venus looks fabulous! Have to add Venus in Furs. Other favorites include Fanny Hill, The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (sorry not sorry), and Crash :) Also, Tampa and The White Hotel. And can't forget 120 Days....
