yeah Motorcade sold me on Valiant finally I like the Countree Hype riddim on this one; not sure if there are more versions: Totally agree on Chronic Law testing one's patience, it takes a lot of will for me to click these days. Interesting drums on this one though:

I thought you'd abandoned us Benny. There's something about Valiant I find vaguely off-putting. I can't put my finger on what it is—some kind of industry plant vibes lol. I could get over that, and Dunce Cheque is his best so far. Still, I prefer Kraff on that same riddim: Valiant works for...

That is pretty bizarre, yeah, but Last Last really does work as a riddim, I should revisit the Skilli I haven't been paying attention much either, but this Intence tune just came out and it's brilliant...you might even like it Luka

not sure if you just want 90s rap, but I always thought this Future track was surprisingly soft a lot of HNDRXX sounds kind of like this too

Anyone been paying attention to Grim YG? I liked this spin on the 6ix sound but can't remember if I've heard him before:

Impressed with Charly Black on that version. Sea Waves is great too I had a pair of Clarks desert chukkas before I knew their cultural import in JA. Unfortunately they shredded my ankles and the soles wore out within months. This was about 15 years ago though, so they may have changed (I'd hope...

love this new Skeng "Day Break": so much going on in the mix, but esp those super recessed background vocals

That's a great tune Not sure what I make of Shenseea & Skillibeng "Rain" On balance, a bit of a mess (and truncated at that) but I'll admit it's not what I was expecting from the billing

it's one of the more psychedelic riddims I've heard in a while there's something about the treble-heavy floating sound that reminds me of... Curtis's Keep On Trippin' maybe?

Good stuff Benny, I also have a weakness for flute riddims. There's a Whap Whap remix with Fivio Foreign & French Montana out too. I wasn't paying close attention but it sounded credible So Gvnman Spaniard was on the Samba riddim, also featuring Jahshii & Jahvillani's Badness which I maybe like...

I hope you found something more soothing to listen to, Corpsey. That don-don-don repetition does flirt with maddening, even when sober. Akaline lost most of his magic for me a little while back, but Static is a nice surprise I'm enjoying the arms race to come out with the most laryngitic...

yes, though I'm in Montreal so not locally, and I don't really know what the dynamic is like in Toronto. At any rate, a few years past Drake's peak prominence, there's nothing like the crossover you all seem to be experiencing

Yeah good point about the 6ixx crew. And now that you mention it, it would make sense if this shift in sound was in part driven by the rising UK appeal you mentioned (I'm in Canada so that dynamic is mostly opaque to me), given the lack of vocal psych in the drill scene there.

When they lay off the syrup, dancehall just sounds so good right now. Have we moved somewhere beyond the neon screams vocal psychedelia mode? 1UpTown has some good vocal effects and Kartel's voicing on Spring Break (perhaps necessarily due to prison) has some heavy processing. But I'm feeling...

Spring Break is superb Benny, really nice to see a ton of different artists on a good riddim too. Skilli released a new EP with prev released Whap Whap and Piana on it. The other three tracks demonstrate his uhh range. Thee Most Power is fantastic: Rocket Launcher w/ Popcaan and Rich the...

Commercial flights is an interesting one. You can pay to board earlier, sit closer to the exit, and get through security faster but you can't, of course, make the plane go any faster (even the fast security line can't really save you that much time). I don't know anything about planes, but I...
