Modernism: where we need to return or what we need to leave behind?

True. I finished Ray Brassier's difficult book a few days ago and noticed Land's influence throughout the book. But I don't think that either Brassier or Negarastani's political and philosophical projects are Landian. The whole thing looks more like a mutual influence between writers with...

Black Sun is also part of the Aryan occult symbolism. I agree with empty mirror, the concept of black sun depends on its proximity from the earth. Yes, the concept in cyclonopedia is different from Masonic and Aryan symbologies because here the black sun is 'buried within the earth'. In the...

I actually saw another version of this. I don't like Black Metal but the call for papers looks very interesting. Black Metal as an 'inherently problematical music' is an interesting concept.

Oops, I missed all these posts. :( You are right, those Borowczyk films set in contemporary environment don't work at all. It seems his talent is in manipulating the traditional erotic code by using the semiotic structures of a certain era which is really not adequate for portraying the...

Did any one mention nunexploitation too?;) Isn't it the one with the bunny story? You are right, boring but I liked it esp. the episode about the bunny. I haven't seen this one but it looks promising. What do you think? Any idea what is the Arthurian reference in the title?

LOL! By the way, have you seen Trouble Every Day? From what I have heard it is a brutal cult movie. I watched In My Skin the other night which I enjoyed, very disturbing. It seems people compare these two movies with each other. Plan to watch Trouble Every Day this week.

I kind of enjoyed it. It was boring but some of the scenes were beautiful. I liked the ambient noise more than anything. I can see the similarities between the book and Begotten: the idea of diseased creation and breaking things into their formless parts, etc.

Yes shrouding the monster rather than describing it. I agree it works well for fiction. It is also a rule of thumb for good horror movies. But Cyclonopedia has an interesting tactic to deal with this problem. I think for the most part, it successfully manipulates the excessive description and...

Coincidentally, I was searching for a movie in my collection and found La Bete, put it aside to watch again. It's a great bestial fairy tale and surprisingly erotic too, although I couldn't stop laughing during that famous beast scene. I watched the cut version of Thriller - en grym film and it...

Yes you are right about the encyclopedia motif. But Borges mainly hints at them or talks about 'the ideas' of these objects. He rarely explores the possibility of making or writings one these books. I think Guattari mentions something mean about Borges regarding that Borges is only interested in...

Calvino, no I don't think so, maybe a bit of Invisible Cities. Borges and Burroughs, some of the concepts and styles, but not that much. I personally think more of Deleuze and Guattari but even that similarity is limited to some shared concepts and the supposedly rhizomatic text. I think the...

I finished the book and am quite satisfied with it. Strangely I had the same feeling about characters. At first I kind of missed the promising sense of storytelling but once the true oil madness broke out and all those underground things started to surface, I forgot the characters and the...

Did the book have a reference to Golem too? I can't remember. If not that is obviously a weak point that it's not included considering it has every other crazy thing in it. ;) I'm getting close to finishing the book, reading the chapter on the origin of zoroastrianism/monotheism. Some more...

I didn't like the pazuzu chapter that much, the demon could be less literal. Never heard of Morricone's Pazuzu, is it good? Yeah, I guess so. It's a Christ/Antichrist, Conscious/Unconscious, Heavenly/Earthly thing. I prefer your ancient astronaut petroglyph, it has an unearthly simplicity...
