Embraced the Ripper through the same blackdown interview, he's really not bad. 'Afro Samurai' is just a solid hip hop album (some classic samples to boot), very much a Wu-Tang vibe. Like you say, nice lad ('I Ain't A Playa'); low on the sweetbwoy perversions; conscientious lyrics... not grime...
Has anybody had a chance to listen to the new Are You Dumb yet? On first impressions it's continuing the trend of high-standard mixtapes in 08...
Like 'Soulfood 3' there's a alot of variety production wise, which compensates for the fact that it's Jammer (grime's comic relief) but he delivers...
Safe... I've spent the last hour going through these - mindblowing. Caz vs. Melle Mel battle is sick
Listening to the DJ battles and the flows it's such a blast (a perfect companion to John Eden's Saxon clashes thread)... Interesting to hear the early disco-breaks stuff aswell.
yeah i saw that! you wonder what it's all coming to, this grime thing we're into. You see the 'major players' acting out their pathetic myspace headlines. 'I'm the King of Grime' 'No I'm the King of Grime!'
I guess on the world scene, grime is still a fringe genre, and these guys are just...
Soulfood Vol.3 is doing alot for me. There's obligatory grimeforum moaning (someone called it 'boring'), probably because it isn't an in-your-face hypefest. It's the sound of a man into his green being introspective with the grime format. Sketchy, almost paranoid in places, despite his...
It was okay, it sounded a bit contrived to these ears. Being where the style all started out, you would think grime MC's would constantly be merking the dance shows for a bit of extra lolly...

that's the one. Another recent film was 'Babel'. It's like 'Amores Perros' but occurring across several continents...
If you haven't seen it, that was also directed by Alejandro Gonzalez, and consisted of several separate narratives that inter-cut throughout, and finally all converge in the...
well two things are for sure, they're nothing new and they're definitely going to make more money than me. Can we have a revolution please? A proper second era of psychedelia perhaps? Maybe with some new ideas? Is such a thing even possible any more? *sigh*
The main thing that bothers me about...
Northern Lights was extremely difficult to sit through. What happened to the Church being the ruthless villains of the piece?
A Scanner Darkly was impressive though. One of my favourite Dick stories, beautifully presented. Never would have thought they would get all those big names to play...
For sure... I'm a good 9 months into my grime experience, and along the way I've been sucked into dubstep and dancehall - the rich culture you mention is what appeals to me so much, especially from where I'm based. Woofah 1 was an eye opener.
There's a tendency for sweeping generalizations...
