Personally I don't think 2014 has been a great year musically so I've been listening to mostly older stuff. I have 'discovered' PiL and Arthur Russell and have been loving 'em. Also been listening to a lot of stuff by The Fall, Can, Drexciya and DJ Sprinkles
Fact did a 100 best 70s albums list recently and they went for 20 Jazz Funk Greats. It's a tough choice but I think I would have to go for The Man Machine

I'd say that on average I spend about three hours a day during the week and about six hours a day at the weekend. On weekday mornings I'll listen to a vinyl single or two when I'm getting ready for work (Man On A String parts 1 and 2 by Shackleton this morning). I normally cycle into work but if...
This is a thread for mixes showcasing the music that you thought was awesome in 2013. No rules apart from all tracks must have been released this year, obviously

Go on then, damage your music nerd credibility for the rest of time in this thread

Mine mostly went for fairly mainstream rock, classical, some country, blues and jazz
This would probably be about normal for a middle-class UK family in the eighties and nineties I imagine
So we're all underground music geeks here. But what do you say when someone who is not a total nerd about this stuff asks you this, say someone at your work who only listens to daytime radio or whatever
I usually say I like house and techno and that sort of thing
Here's a couple of awesome mixes to start the year off with - one from Levon Vincent - http://www.littlewhiteearbuds.com/podcast/lwe-podcast-149-levon-vincent/
01. Mark Enestus, “Meets BBC” [Honest Jon's Records]
02. Shifted, “Trouble” [Mote Evolver]
03. Ryo Murakami, “Night Dew” [Baud]

Can't believe nobody's done a thread on this already
My favourite - Silent Servant - Negative Fascination
Honourable mentions - Julia Holter, X-TG, Raime, Carter Tutti Void, Actress, Shackleton, Kassem Mosse and Mix Mup, Traxman, Young Smoke, Hype Williams

'Dedication' is an amazing album. His Hyperdub and Ramp releases were good but this is on another level. One of the few producers around who's really doing something original
There's no one quite like him is there? One of my favourite producers around even though he's hardly released any new material this year (can't stop listening to 'Three EPs').
This mix he did for Mary Anne Hobbs in August is outstanding - or http://www.mediafire.com/?vs96k57ou406i76

So, I joined Facebook the other month (making me the last twentysomething in the UK to do so), and to celebrate I did a wee mix and stuck it up there. However, it didn't turn out to be a big hit with my Facebook pals (I've only got about twenty or so :slanted:) and I sort of forgot about it...
