pretty shocking indeed. while reading my mind was kind of going: don't you mean Vietnam or Ethiopia instead of England?

that's truly horrific. i must admit i knew very little about this, and it's surprising it hasn't come to public prominence too much before, afaik.

i would say it's astonishing it went on til 1967, but unfortunately it's all too believable.

Shows the potential power of official apology though. If only politicians could offer such forthright, unequivocal apologies for slavery, colonialism and so many of the other "stains on our society". Maybe we could say sorry for Iraq...
