I am!

If you see me, say hello. I'll be the fat (yet muscular!) dude with short brown hair, glasses, and iPod-tone skin.

what kinda vibe are they playing to??

Before this night I guess NYC has had Dizzee on his own, and Mark One & Plasticman played to a Rephlex / techno audience.

Is grime reaching the hip hop crowd or more the electro crowd over there?

I am sure its mostly going to be IDM / electro music nerds. But that's the same in LDN as well =)
Anyways I am there. Look for the muppet dancing around in a hoodie.

lol yer... I'm always worried about stepping on someone's Etnies at Eskimo Dance. It could all kick off and I'd get my face smashed in with skaterboarders key chains....

Haha, yeah you got to watch the kids with the Etnies.

Jokes aside the party was banging and while it was not a typical UK grime crowd (very much a Vice crowd) everybody was well into it. I was just dancing like a muppet all night, well until it had finished. A lot of my friends were into it but they kept asking me why they were always rewinding the tunes. D Double killed it. He is so concentrated when he spits, he is like a zombie.

Anyways I think the night was a big success and I think you could see that the MCs were pleased with the huge response. My favorite part was when of the DJs spun the Lethal B - Kiley track during the warm up, which got a lot of shouts and got the party well rowdy.

There was a table with records on it run by napiformrecords.com, picked up a ruff sqwad tune and some others for $10 a piece.

This was a big night for sure. The energy in the room when Jammer/D-Double took the stage was staggering. On wax I honestly never loved D-Double, but he commanded serious respect on the mic last night. Big up Shadetek for putting together another big B&M night!

What this jaded New York hipster saw:

Dee: Mediocre MC with no stage presence. Very stiff up there. Only lyrics you could make out were that daft "mui" noise he repeats every five seconds, which is just lame.

Jammer: Star of the show, rapped some, controlled the stage, brought the energy. Too many rewinds that noone was calling for.

Music: So-so. Nice to hear various classics on the sound system, but didn't hear any new tunes that made me go what the fuck is that. Too many mid-tempo tunes with eerie noises and no hooks.

Crowd: It was full and people were into it. Nice vibe.

Overall, a disappointing night.

I was trying to keep my expectations low so I was fully prepared to be let down. However, it was definitely a good show with potential for improvement.

The first half of the performance felt like a blind date with both performers and audience visibly self-concious.

Once things started to flow (and when Jammer took over a mic) energy picked up and I think everyone relaxed. I was psyched just to hear tracks I knew over a big system. Had no complaints on the ridiculous number of rewinds..

Who was the kid with the button up warming the crowd?

DEE seemed alternately posessed by the music and posessed by stage fright up there. One moment, it would be clicking and he'd seem totally into it.. but then other times, he seemed to lose the crowd a bit.

Definitely interested in hearing more about the Toronto appearance...

when exactly did Jammer and DEE take the stage? i got there at 1 and they seemed well into it. i thought DEE was off the hook and was sad to see him leave the mic for the decks. the vibe was SERIOUS. like a thugged-out bashment with darker rave undercurrents (on stage anyway). low-end expanding out to the walls. i nabbed a freebie from Jammer too :D

Yeah ~12. You got there as things started to really pop! Listening to the records from last night.. what's up with Black Ops? "Champagne Hoe's" has a ridic beat but the lyrics feel like a half-assed attempt at a US rap topic.

I'll get photos back tomorrow and post a link.

There were mad cameras up on that show.. at the outset, more cams than mics. At least 3 video cameras and many more still photographers. It was more like a press conference than a rave.
