Pitiless police persecute Plastic People. Punters pissed.

Tried to reach FWD this Thurs because Chef/Braiden/Marcus Nasty/Pangaea lineup just sounded too good to miss...

Both myself and my two female friends were pretty much subjected to everything short of a strip search, they literally went through EVERYTHING I fucking had, searching between pages of books I had in case there were any drugs in there, etc. etc., then my friend got moved on because she was just surprised the ropes around the smoking area didn't have chains in them and the management were being well arsey... long story short it's not about clubs making their clientele feel genuinely unwelcome in their club, I get that PP is going through some issues but it actually felt like they'd rather I didn't waste their time trying to get in. On top of all this shit that's being mentioned about the smoking situation I really think FWD is due for a move... the girl doing tickets tried to tell me that "PP has NEVER done £5 early entry tickets"... sorry love been reaching for years and I always make it in before the price rise because I'm a skint motherfucker. 'llowin FWD for now until shit gets sorted, I know they probably don't care because bare randoms hit it every week but seriously it felt like I was about to try and board a plane with the assumption I was carrying explosives. No no no PP. Sort it out.

yep. a sad state of affairs.

Sounds almost as if they're saying to the council 'if that's how you want it then this is what you get', but it's the punters that take the brunt.

Without this, there'd be no plastic people... bigger picture time.

but there would still be a fwd, at a different place, which might not be so annoying.

i went there and wasnt too bothered by it to be honest, but i was at the front of the cue, only had wallet, id and phone in my pocket, and dont smoke. the security guy seemed a little apologetic and made a joke about it being an airport, i guess its obvious theyre being forced into this situation by whats happened. once your in and dancing its all good.

my advice is if you go, just pack lightly, take all the stuff out of your pockets and clean your wallet, and the search will be quick and better for everyone behind you in the que, its pretty much all you can do.

i wasn't massively bothered by the searches - didn't seem any worse than any other place i'd been to where they do searches - but i didn't go out for a fag cos of the long queue, which is probably a good thing really. There was a bouncer eying me up when i was standing near a speaker but whatever, not too bothered i wasn't doing anything wrong.

Do they have that level of security at other nights?

it was similar when i went to Warm there a few weeks back, which is their disco-y night. didn't really bother me much - the queues to get in are annoying, but other places in London are much, much worse in my experience. places like Cargo take the piss, forcing people to queue outside when there's no one in there.

and the bouncers at plastic people seemed to be treating people with respect and politeness when i was there.

apparently winston is basically not allowed to be friendly now, even to people he knows (this isn't me feeling personally slighted, i'm not one of those people)

i should have remembered this thread before i wrote this blog, since it's full of useful material, but anyway, here, i blogged abt this this morning, after oneman was banned for life last night :((((

I'm hoping people will start putting on (proper) warehouse parties now the clubs have all these stupid new rules. If someone could also start producing good ecstasy again, that would be appreciated.

very sad to hear this story. its very hard to see through the rumour, the conjecture and the fact at this point. i think the honest truth that i've witnessed is that all the regulars - many of whom have been going to parties there that pre-date fwd and the like, many that go back a decade in their fond relationship with the place - are very upset at the way this is going. i guess you could liken this to a prohibition of sorts - only 15 people outside, no blazing allowed... it sucks. its ruining the atmosphere and its hurting the legacy of a legendary place. but what we all want at the end of the day is that it stays open, that the story continues - and the best way to really to really fuck the police case at this point is to comply so utterly with their rules that they just don't have a leg to stand on.

best case scenario, this bullshit continues until they accept theres been an improvement. if we get pissed off with it and stop attending, thus hurting the turnover and the business of the club, then they have won.

until then, don't try to be a smart mouth with the licensee or security, don't bring ANY drugs of any kind anywhere near the club, comply with any bullshit you get served, and just try to think of the long term. every time someone gets done its another black mark for the club, and any white powder or pills and you'll be turned over to the police. it is no joke. they simply have to do this.

I've found it fine when i've been but then i didn't come in with any drugs or want to go outside for a fag, i tend to not drink much there too as it doesnt seem to work, really, usually i come alone infact as i just want to get into the music, can socialise before hand or whatever, the big speakers and the atmosphere are the priority.

Not surprised oneman was banned - he tried to bring drugs into a club which is under really strict conditions, it's a shame for sure, but this is just the reality of the conditions and he must have known that - these searches aren't for fun.

It's strange how the premise of the campaign to help plastic people survive was based on the fact that there is no trouble and not much drug use and it's all about the music, then as soon as the conditions placed upon the club to ensure these statements are a fact, people complain they can't smoke and chat outside and aren't allowed to take drugs in.

So, how you finding the new layout and soundsystem?

we can delay.ay.ay...
there's a security person in a flourescent yellow bib walking around the dancefloor with a torch...is that really necessary when everyone in there has had to endure full cavity searches to gain entry?

either way, when kode 9 switched the light off during kryptic minds' (booooring) set the other week i can't have been the only one to think it was a slightly poignant moment... RIPPP

there are loads of warehouse parties but they're mostly of the squat / free party type.

and there are amazing pills going round atm :)

I dont have much sympathy for Oneman, he took his chance and lost. To be honest I'm not entirely getting some of the criticisms. Are people feeling short changed because they cant smoke inside the club? We knew that the smoking ban would be enforced strongly, deal with it. You can complain that every other club has dozens of people on E's but the ilegal act of taking a pill only lasts a second, after that it's pretty inoffensive to the club management as long as people are buying expensive water and refraining from passing out on the dancefloor.

I admit I dont understand the queues for smoking policy, is this because its hard to manage one set of people coming in and another coming in? If it's purely to discourage people to go outside for a puff it doesnt make sense to me. As for the complaints about outside smoking, are people implying that the bouncers wont let you smoke spliffs on the street. I know that the club doesnt own the street but given the hassle the club has been getting its understandable if they want to police it.

bandz ahoy
You can't really criticise the club owners for doing all this stuff, obviously they have to comply with the council/police. But from a punter's perspective it all just sounds like a big pain in the arse, and nothing like the same experience as going there before it was shut down. I think a lot of people are just sad that the club has been forced to take these measures because it sounds like going there won't be as fun as it was before.

But assuming you were a non smoker, with no handbag or shit in your pockets- is it similar to how it was in the past, or do the queues to get in and bouncers with torches make it more trouble than its worth?

it all sounds crap and fascist but if you like and just go for the music, which most people who go to pp do, then you dont necessarily need all the other stuff anyway. it sounds hard to tolerate - ive not been there since it reopened - but thats what the club has to do from the sounds of it. so if you support pp, then maybe people will just have to grin and bear it for a while.
