apparently (i didn't see it), one of the contestants on "american idol" last night sang "the letter" and not only did no one acknowledge/mention alex chilton, but the judges went on to call the song "corny." ok, alex didn't write "the letter," but it was a pretty significant part of his career, a #1 hit that everyone still knows, and the poor guy died less than a week ago, jeez. sadly, the "music experts" on the jury probably don't even know who he was.
