anyone dissapointed by jammer, i am, he used to go on about postive force and rasta and his first tune is all about going for the metal, probably cos he knows it will make the track popular.
he's not a great mc and the tune is a bit novelty to my ears altho i enjoy it in a sense, , its a turning point , a lever,
time to get beyond the gun man lyrics a bit.
what u think

hmmm i've been thinking of buying this (haven't heard it yet) as i've rather missed jammer. its ridiculous to think that stuff as amazing as 'vice versa' and 'birds in da sky' is going into the dustbin of history (i made a grime c90 for a mate last week and it ended up full of 2002-3 jammer productions....though that could just be cos i'm a bit armchair) anyway 'novelty' is promising :p

gunman lyrics are obviously not a good thing, except perhaps when especially ridiculous (eg, 'AAARGH! LETHAL B'S GOT A GUN!') so that is a bit of a shame

hmm dogzilla has made some interesting tracks of late, one about being excessivley pilled up and one using a sample of night shift, which was covered by paul young, which isn't exactly concious, but aware kinda lovely and slightly upfully politicised.

In general I'm really hoping for a shift in lyrical content. The material is very, very old. The exciting part is that it's being funnelled through new vernaculars, new vocal rhythms, etc., but the themes were played out over a decade ago. There's no (non-market-driven) reason why (exoticized) badman talk should necessarily be the default mode for MCs, even in a battle/clash. (You could invoke the Signifyin' tradition as an over-determining factor, but it would still be a stretch)

I'm wondering if the shift to vocal tracks and albums portends an expansion of lyrical creativity. (Obviously, people are doing it a bit, here and there. IE: I noticed D Double getting a bit 'conscious' on the mic at the Run the Road show) If not, I think it's going to run out of steam or, worse, calcify like mainstream US hip hop (which is an undeniable influence). I'm not dismissing anyone, but I do think it needs to push into new areas in a big way soon. Then again, I'm not necessarily the target audience. If gunfinger tracks are selling then they'll dominate the content.

agreed. although.. one of the most powerful bits of grime mcing... actually the first time the MCing <i>gripped</i> me rather than just being an impressive barrage of syllables which have something in common, was in that plasticman promo mix with the MCs where one guy (dont know who he is... sorry) suddenly starts talking about how last year he was lonely and started thinking about suicide... it was amazingly moving to hear him so vulnerable, but especially so with badbwoyizms being fired left and right on either side of the verse.

a happy balance (conscious/badbwoy) is the probably the most powerful.

i cant really stand jammer or the whole jah mek the world camp as either mc's or producers - all of the music sounds terrible - i dont actually think theres one jammer tune i really like.....


mc's are gonna have to switch up their lyrics cos lil' becky and lil' gemma's parents somewhere in england aren't really gonna let them buy mc so and so's records in asda with all the armshouse/gunman/sex lyrics around....

Jammer's productions are huge. He's a rave mc, that's it. It would be nice to see a balancing out of content and hype lyrics.

yeah but 50 cent has backstory and stories.

jammer just has to go neckle hand on the meckle which was probably wicked when he ws stoned and it is sort of a good track but it's still shit.
his rapping is rubbish too.
i'm the merkle man is just funny.
i reckon wiley produced it cos he thought it was funny too
.
his producings are better.

when it come to garage the only ppl that I will really check for is Terrah Danjah and some of Aftershock and P-Jam. Wiley is interesting at times but thats it. The vast majority is jus noise to me.......

I rate Jammer as a producer only. His murcul man bit is a tiring. If it were just "I'm the murcul man, never gonna flex like Erkle(however you spell his name), man." then his rhyming might be considered a tad more professional. It's just neckle, seckle, keckle, beckle, whateveckle.

Destruction VIP was toiiiight. Grave Yard is a killer, been listening non-stop.

Jammer is a big hype man on stage - kinda reminds me of the olden days of UKG MC'ing where the mc was there to compliment the tunes.

Now the tracks are more angry - so are the mc's. Although his content is not as deep as others he still brings a much needed vibe to many events.
