Vinyl dying (for DJ's)

Was having a go on my friends traktor DVS set up and he showed me the little orange bar that tells you if your tunes are drifting out, by how much and in which direction.

Makes it so easy to mix that you might as well sync - except with this you look like your beat matching manually. I think if I had traktor i'd get far too reliant on that.

if you can beat mix you just turn that stuff off, its distracting

I've got the simplest controller, use it with the vinyls, much better than using keyboard mouse

Do not read this.
Ah i was just asking. My friend has it, and also i’ve seen Richie Hawtin use it (expertly) just curious, the fx look right up my alley. Not too into the syncing thing but w/e

I'm far from being a royalist but I feel pretty sorry for Prince Charles having to do all that stupid stuff all the time. He knows as he's doing it that there is no way that he can come out of it looking anything but a cunt and he's probably dying a little inside as he does. I guess he's used to it by now but still...

Oh aye, seen that, quite good.
I got my portable record player out for a barbeque at the weekend and lugged a load (well, ok, about twenty records) to Higham Park only to discover that the record player itself had in fact died. Shame, I loved that thing although I have to admit that I rarely used it.

where do people see (what's left of) this going? there still seems to be room for vinyl djing in some scenes say for eg the berlin techno scene.
but seems now like there's a critical mass of change with hardware / media such that it will be increasingly difficult to even keep a micro scene of vinyl djs going.
many clubs prob now not keeping decks, or have poor decks which encourages djs to switch over.
as for for the remaining clubs who are committed and look after their decks, since technics are no longer making the 12000 i assume it's going to be increasingly difficult to justify time/expense taken up in the upkeep of some old decks in the remaining clubs that use them. if it's possible to get parts etc for them at all...
that would entail even less clubs with decks and then more djs switching over, even smaller print runs for dance vinyl until more vinyl outlets close etc etc ...till the already small scene infrastructure around vinyl unravels completely.
if decks not there / are in shit condition i guess dummy vinyl using djs would have to switch over too, meaning less demand for decks in remaining vinyl using clubs, further adding to downward trend...
or can we expect replica quality 12000s on the market? or would clubs put up with other, less good, dj decks? are technics still making the high end luxury model MK5G that certain wealthy clubs can procure?

Round Shoreditch/Hackney/Dalston pretty much all the crappy bars and pubs (well, the ones that have djs I mean) have decks, albeit badly maintained. I think they'd still be badly maintained if they were cd decks though. Maybe the area is unusual on that score though.

Still cannot understand this clubs not maintaining their decks issue. Can people not bring their own?

From dragging your whole rig into a pub's backroom to the US heads packing their bozak. Hasn't it always been the way?
