There is a fair bit of piss taking going but what's new.

Think the market for twelves is much better then it was five or six years ago.

LP's maybe, but is that the case for new dance singles? Considering the smaller cities I'm familiar with Newcastle & Dublin only have one such shop each, Belfast (population 450,000ish) has none that sells them. It's just second hand stuff or new pricey mainstream rock/ indie. I would've thought that if there was enough new turntable owners to support all these Beatles reissues and countless releases for current bands there would be more shops stocking the dance 12"s that are bound to sell well- a guitar centric shopkeeper doesn't have to be too clued up on underground stuff to know that Disclosure singles, Skream's disco edits and the likes of that new Jenna G cut on Rinse are safe bets surely? I'm surprised HMV don't have a quota of- say- order in at least three new dance singles every month. Remember it wasn't that long ago that they had whole sections of their shops devoted to this stuff.

This story made me chuckle

I don't mean to derail the discussion, but does anyone here have a preference between the mixers Vestax PMC-06 Pro and Numark DM1100SE?

is it second hand?

I have a PMC-170 that's coming apart bit by bit and the eq was rubbish to begin with. Gain doesn't kill either.

Don't know much about the Numark but presumably of a lesser standard next to vestex.

For budget/two channel I would (or really should have at this stage) skip a weekend or two out and grab an Xone 22, for what it's worth

true, though shops aren't necessarily the same barometer they were a few years ago. Maybe I dunno. Author is probably more clued into the distro/business end of things but just a sense from browsing looks like things are genuinely healthier then the doom that hung around.

No doubt plenty of label owners are having sleepless nights and producers scratching their head when pay materialises but looks good from a buyers point of view.

I'd be getting either for free. Sounds like the vestex is just a better brand than the numark, thanks. And noted about the Xone but I think I'll be going the cheap route for now

A flaw with Numarks is that the crossfader develops a problem after a while. It can be relieved by spraying switch cleaner into it now and again, but not cured outright. If you were scratching it would be a major issue.

Plan on ripping a bunch of my vinyl to digital when I'm back in the UK this summer. Was hoping just to plug my mixer out into my macbook's audio jack and record in .wav in audacity or something. Is that likely to be good enough quality for club play or should I really invest in a dedicated sound card?

wise

bare BARE BONES
i've got an audio 2, they're good but not for what you want, there's no input, just two outs

this is basic but should do the job fine if you dont need extra bells and whistles
