Vinyl dying (for DJ's)

how does L.I.E.S. manage to release so much stuff? discogs has them at about 60 releases in two years, seems like every time i get a record store new releases email, it includes a couple of releases from the label. hard to believe they sell so much but i guess so, how else would they be able to afford to do it? maybe rob morelli is independently wealthy or something.

If the records sell, this isnt difficult with a P&D deal which most labels widely distributed have. It's just rare people have that much good music to share with the world.

Don't know if they will or could match Technics' famous durability though that aspect has hardly been one Pioneer's concerns with their other DJ gear. Still, I presume they know the market better than anyone else these last few years so an encouraging sign.

Its a 1210 with a round button and pioneer written on it.
Why bother, plenty of the real thing still around

physical release schedule will be pretty quiet for the next few weeks.

This isn’t a seasonal issue. The early spring sunshine isn’t keeping shoppers away from the high street. In fact, March and April have traditionally been very strong trading months.

The cause of this new release drought might surprise you; Record Store Day.

Right now, we have 20+ manufacturing jobs in production, all of which have come to a grinding halt while the pressing plants make hay by pressing up umpteen thousand Oasis LP re-issues, Abba 7”s and REM Box sets. We have even had one vinyl plant refuse any order of less than 500 units until after Record Store Day.

So, for the next six weeks, we are effectively locked out of the vinyl business.

It's 99% likely to be just a Pioneer-branded OEM turntable similar to the Stanton ST-150 or the high-end Reloop / Numark / Vestax decks.

Even the button layout is near identical to my STR-150's.

The kudos thing definitely rings true, last couple weeks I've been in shops and seems to be less new stuff. Just went to second hand shops instead though!

Record store day is pretty rubbish anyway (obviously not for the shops!). But 99% of the stiff released is either A: Already available, often cheaper B) Crap or C) will get repressed after record store day anyway.

I have started taking two beermats and placing them over the labels as I play tunes. I dont particularly care what anyone is using to dj, each to their own as long as they can dj, but I don't want some laptop cunt walking up to the decks and downloading the tunes I am playing. Bammbatta used to steam the labels off records and I don't have patiences for that but carving out your own sound is still the name of the game.

Might be sacrilege in this thread I dunno but I'm thinking I'm going to save up and get some cheap CDJS. I'm just not in the position to afford vinyl/new decks really, and also I want to be able to play free downloaded tunes/own production etc.

Does anyone have CJDS? Are the ones you get for about 400 all in acceptable?

get pioneers, i've used numark and citronic before and they're pretty shit. really really takes the fun out of it when the jog wheel goes mental every time you touch it, or spins off loosely, or when the cue button doesn't feel right.

i bought a pair of second hand pioneer 200s about 6 yrs ago and they've held up well. the 400s are ok and u should be able to get a pair of them for £400 or less, jog wheel's not as nice as the 1000s but the cue and play buttons feel right and u can use USBs and hook em up to traktor. if i was buying again i'd save up that bit more and get a pair of second hand 1000s

Thanks for the advice! I really miss mixing, tbh I am beginning to think I've really got nothing to give as a producer and DJing is something I'd be better off pursuing (obviously not professionally!)

been using dj-console now, numark's mixtrack pro. very affordable (about 200£), jog wheels works good. pitch could be bit more accurate, though don't know if it's because of traktor 2 pro.

I presume this is more of a control for software that you already have on your computer than a self-sufficient mixing kit? So I would need Traktor to make it work? I presume there's a catch to it being so much cheaper than CDJS.

yeah that one, and yes it's software control. you can use it with any mixing software - i think there are some good enough free softwares around? traktor 2 pro is about 80£, so you're right about the end price if you buy it.

good side about cdjs are that many clubs are having them as default, so you don't have to bring your laptop + console setup with you. also you don't have to twiddle setuping it as cdjs are likely to be already setuped.

Hmmm

The other thing is my laptop is on its last legs. I'd like to have a go on one of those controller things though, they look pretty neat.
