People just make up arbitrary names for music, get over it.

IDM is one of the more stomach curdling terms though. The name itself comes from a place of snobbery which is probably why there's so much hostility to anything linked with the term.
Its as if all other dance musics are unintelligent.

so the consensus of dissensus is that idm should be avoided at ALL costs? what's a better way of spending my time (and torrent ratios) than investigating the work of Autechre and aphex?

whilst i await samba influenced NDW i just found a download link for some keysound releases. Mr Backdown i'll let you know what i think

on the 1st page tom lea says you did it.

at the top of page 3 blackdown claims that he came up with the idea but under 'wonky' and TL says that again he stole it off you and that is actually it.

i later prove that you didn't come up with it (not that you were claiming to) and that was that. people made fun of my name, we spoke about chicken shops and blackdown got angry about dub techno.

so yes sorry mr hancox you didn't ever claim to have come up with sea sick synths.

Are users here saying the "name" should be avoided, or the artist? I'm just curious.

I think everyone should have a go at listening to Autechre and Aphex, even if you don't consider yourself as someone who is a "IDM" fan. They are very very good at what they do even if it isn't your cup of tea.
