interesting read from noz about whether the craving for buzz is killing hip hop artistry - id agree, just cos rappers are too quick to slip anything out or as much as they can as often as possible just to keep their name out there. i blame it all on mixtape culture personally.

noz is the best hip hop reviewer the wire has ever had btw.

Noz is very good, but what few Tompkins reviews I've seen on the subject are in fact great. A certain *cough* someone, also writes for them, and I'm not in love with all his writing for The Wire, but that someone once wrote a review of Danny Brown's "XXX" that emotionally devastated me.

are there any decent, insightful books y'all can recommend on hip hop 90-00 please?

Gucci's "Trap Back" is fire. Dunno, if it's "trap or not, but Tree's Sunday School (from last year) is also amazing. Been checking out Fat Trel's out stuff myself - "No Secrets" is incredible.
