made what will probably be my final trip out to dope jams today. despite the hype, the guys in there were in a good mood and friendly. even made a joke about the situation: "hey, i don't want to work here forever."

i've been in a cd mood lately, so picked up a few of their own comps, a tony humphries zanzibar classics cd (all $15 cds that he charged me $10 each for!) and a "joe claussell meets manuel gottsching" remix thing i'd never seen before.

best bit: one the wall, amidst all the house classics and recent 12"s, they have a couple of copies of the "i wanna punk rock" step forward 7" singles box set!

Something I recorded with some of my favourite songs from the year, alongside a few classics. It was recorded using vinyl, and turntables with wandering pitch and inconsistent rpm in one take. I could have recorded it after a few practice spins but I prefer that off the cuff element and the roughness it adds. There's no tracklist either but it features songs from Fudge Fingas, Madteo, MM/KM, Petre Inspirescu, Marcel Dettmann, Truncate, Beneath, Trevino, Photon, Omar S and a few more.

Just stopping by to say that I've been enjoying the end-of-year mixes in this thread since paolo tipped me off to them - still to listen to gremino's & Local Authority's but paolo, jimi & ben all nailed it. :)
Not an expert on contemporary house obviously but I like the low-key kind of tunes that make up quite a lot of these mixes. Stripping it down to just a few elements can totally work.

Only really started to buy House / Techno last year and so the stuff that perked my ears has a lot in common with the Bass Music / Future Garage / Post-Dubstep / Wut U Call It I was feeling the year before. A lot of the stuff I bought in 2012 was fairly old, thanks to the "Classic House" thread.

Anyway enjoy. Not everything abides by the [2012] rule and a couple unreleased things in there but it suited the vibe.

was anyone down with Prince of Denmark last year? tipped off by paolo linking to Levon's mix last month with this in it:
whole ep's great imo, kind of a less-dense Gas with more interesting rhythms. has some nice deep house as Traumprinz too
