Track two is a cover of Donnie & Joe Emerson - Baby, which I had never heard of but is sounding pretty sexy.

can what hype williams does be called a "cover"? haven't heard this track specifically but thinking about other stuff like this doug hream blunt track from "gentle persuasion" that they basically just take, maybe slow down a little, and put it out under their name. seems like a two-minute sample with a little bit of minor tinkering.

don't get me wrong, i enjoy some hype stuff, just think they are stretching their thing a little thin.

Aye, it's well wide - I think that track is actually much better though (lol) so it's OK with me. I'm not sold on the new album yet though, it doesn't seem as bold/big as their other stuff, kinda meandering a little but I should probably give them the benefit of the doubt, I thought that about the attitude rar and there's some proper belters in there.

They're probably some of the most talented people working in electronic music atm imo, properly original even if it doesn't always work right.

It's just something to take as part of their schtick, in the 'whole' of their albums it makes sense to me really as part of their aesthetic. For example in One Nation, 'Break4love' is just an orchestral piece played backwards, but in the context of its placement makes it seem particularly haunting, at least to me.

I was researching the band for a thought piece earlier this year that I never got round to doing and came across this. It's written by the 'Inga' and seems to parallel and highlight a lot of the ideas of the stuff they put out and the way they work.

I had the 4th and 5th tracks playing on repeat for a good hour yesterday.

Those are ace yea. Though I can't help thinking about this fucking Dutch carnaval song which has the exact same melody as the beginning of track 5 on the Hype Williams album.

:confused::confused:

I agree with this yea. The covers really fit into the rest of their output, unlike for example the contested Zomby cover on Dedication, which I think doesn't really fit on that album.

So I went to this Hype Williams concert last night and expected Dean Blunt and Inga Copeland or whatever their names are but instead some white guy was performing. He was wearing weird goggles and had painted his face black, lips red, looked a bit like Black Peter. Shot a tiny video of it, this went on for about 20 minutes then he just walked off the stage and disappeared. Some hours later I got kicked out of a hard-trance party.

I saw them last month and there was a bodybuilder on stage doing bodybuilder poses for the whole gig. Most odd

And there was no music? I was a bit disappointed to be honest, I mean, it was funny and all but they make such good music and was looking forward to hearing some.

i'm reminded of john lydon's infamous final words at the end of the final (original) sex pistols concert in 1978 at san francisco's winterland ballroom: "ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

Nah they played songs, just with a bodybuilder on the stage :)
