I enjoyed that one. I always like an upset and I've had an irrational dislike of the Dutch since having a rivalry over table-tennis with some Dutch kids on a holiday in France about twenty-five years ago. And working in Amsterdam about ten years ago I guess. Anyway, really well-taken goal from the Danes and they actually looked dangerous a few times when they broke. Or maybe Netherlands just looked shaky at the back.

Van Persie had an absolute 'mare. Pretty sure he slipped or fell over every time he went for a shot.

Van P was playing like Torres - terrible first touch and looked really uncertain in front of goal.

Interesting game last night, despite what's now becoming standard moaning from the BBC team. Portugal's reluctance to attack is just bewildering. Boateng's tackle on Ronaldo the highlight of the tournament so far.

I kinda feared this would happen :(

Thing is van Marwijk is so fucking conservative, he never changes his team and why would you start with two defending midfielders against Denmark? Van Bommel shouldn't even be in this team, he is way too old. Put Sneijder or van der Vaart on his position and show some guts. Yesterdays match was terrible.

"Yesterdays match was terrible."
Something I'm sure all the England fans will be saying on Tuesday.
Netherlands would have won if they'd taken their chances, in fact if they'd scored early they might have buried them but they definitely ran out of ideas and steam about fifteen minutes into the second half. I thought Denmark might grab another on the break.

One of those hindsight assessments that could so very easily have gone the other way. Holland could have scored 2 or 3 before half-time. You can't blame Van Marwijk for the best striker in the Premier League suddenly turning into Emile Heskey.

I think that's kinda what I was trying to say. Goals change games and if any of the early chances had gone in it would have been very different.

I don't know why everyone is saying Holland was so good. I think they had 2 100% chances, one by Van Persie and one by Huntelaar, both of them missed. Apart from that they were all long distance shots. I don't think the Danes felt threatened one second. I think the real problem is that there's a huge gap between the attacking block and the defending block, there is simply no midfield it seems. Van Bommel and De Jong serve as poor defenders. And concerning Van Persie, I don't think I have ever seen him playing a good match for Holland. He's like this all the time. I'd like to see Huntelaar as a striker next match and Van Persie behind him.

Haha Balotelli is such an entertaining person to see. Italy leading with 1-0 now BTW. I so hope Spain goes out.

Commentators very hard on Torres I thought. The first time he gets the ball he's made a good run and got through but he's still got a lot to do and he doesn't manage it and everyone is all "The old Torres would have got that". Then next time he makes the right decision to hold back and try the chip instead of bursting through the defenders because the keeper is right off his line covering that... but once again it's "Torres has lost his pace, in the old days he'd have gone straight through them."
Enjoyable game anyway.

really good game. Pirlo's pass for the goal...

Silva's wasnt too bad either... Iniesta's dribbling was brilliant at times, such a great player to watch take it past defenders.

I'd back Italy to get to the semi's based on today, got some handy options on the bench and very organised
