Well a lot of the people in slsk who message me about tracks are french. Its very strange because there English is barely good enough for us to communicate, but the ones I spoke to are back flipping about grime. They love it.

oho...that's interesting, because the first time i heard grime (think it was plasticman or jon e cash) i thought 'oh this sounds a bit like Mr Oizo'. or similar; that dry low-tech paris stuff from about 6 years ago. maybe that sort of production sound has been around in france for long enough that people 'get' grime more easily?

that' s a good point. Also I remember listening to TTC about 4 - 5 years ago and their style then while not grime was def on that weird fucked up beat ting.

how about Jamaica? Someone mentioned that Matterhorn had a dub on Forward at the UK Cup Clash ... anyone know if this is a general thing or a `one-off'?

i played fwd riddim and pum pum riddim to the jamaican deejay(mc) that i work with last summer and he was like 'what the fuck is this horrible shit'. i would imagine most jamaican dancehall/reggae fans/artists/soundmen would react in a similar way (and indeed most hold this kind of view of jungle), though it could just be a question of time before they get used to it. certainly dancehall artists would smash it on grimey riddims (much more so than the other way round IMO)

The latest Vice magazine has feature on grime in Somalia. The kids love Dizzee, but the owner of the local shop likes So Solid, so they throw stones at his shop. Apparently one of Dizzee's entourage is Somalian, that's how the goods got out there.

that has got to be a joke. it is vice after all!
