Jackin' was so much fun for all of five minutes

A DJ friend of mine (not hard to guess who) played that 'Coke Diet' tune in a NYE set around that time we were all into it and it went off with a capital OFF

This forum's definitely missing enthusiasts like datwun to bring it the gospel of the new

Everyone's more or less decided that good music ended in 2015 at the latest 😂

All the jacking has been deleted from datwun's blog

I can't remember any tunes from that genre now other than coke diet

I will say, it's nothing groundbreaking, but I've been enjoying the lowkey crooner/doowop/blue-eyed soul comeback

I thought this wasn't supposed to happen to me until my 40s!

What's the deal? The historical pattern here seems clear: we're never right

young ppl in Brooklyn are really into the Mac Demarco/Homeshake sound, Mac was really declasse for a second there and then somehow made it. Warbly synths, tape distortion, fuzzed-out stoner stuff.

I feel that, for better or worse, Dissensus missed out on a bunch of stuff — e.g. gqom, the grime 'second wave', club/deconstructed club stuff — that would have helped keep up the momentum of the board being a place for new music. I could post a load of new drill tracks I like but I don't really have much interesting to say about them, which feels like a problem.

Looking at Datwun's old posts it's funny — there's so much emphasis on 'nuum as justification but knowing his tastes now it's obvious he just likes house music. It makes me think of how there was almost a brief moment where people tried to justify brostep as some kind of successor to 'ardkore, which might have worked on paper but just didn't hold up as soon as you tried listening to the music.

That's probably where I've always differed from most of the people here. I think we should always scorn dance music as dance music. Any pure club music I think we should chuck in the bin on principle.

the interesting discussions we had about new music mostly came from Barty. UK drill, Brooklyn drill, rap out of Atlanta and the new wave of dancehall. That to me is acceptable. I think if we'd have talked about gqom or 'deconstructed club' I would have had some sort of attack. I agree with third form here. That kind of club culture is diseased, decadent and despicable.

Pretty boring music to get high to though, isn't it? Anodyne, theraputic, safe space music. It's like blues music on anti-depressants.

I kept up with deconstructed club and whatnot for a while, used to check what was on Boomkat every Thursday, keep an eye on Resident Advisor etc. I just lost interest. I'd buy a release and a couple of weeks later wonder what I saw in it. I've got so many records and downloads that now go unplayed.

I don't want to be subjected to the soundtrack of the rootless cosmopolitan pleasure elite. I want blood and soil.

Me and Barty are Reynolds loyalists and Simon has always been about blood and soil. This is why I think the board, which owes its existence to Reynolds should remain hostile to the rootless cosmopolitan pleasure elite and to dance music and club culture more generally.
