Plebgate conspiracy

Roaring back into life, thanks to Channel 4 News tonight. If you haven't seen it, you really should http://www.channel4.com/news/catch-up/

It now seems within hours of what was probably a very minor argument at Downing St gates, the Met officer on duty lied about Mitchell's reaction (the infamous 'fucking pleb' etc) & another cop, posing as a member of the public, emailed his MP (and Mitchell's deputy, but no friend of the man) backing up the fake story. Which was then fed to the Sun. The owner of the email account admitted to C4 he hadn't witnessed anything. He later denied sending the email.

Given the way the Police Federation involved itself in this story at the time, is it reasonable to conclude this was all cooked up to show they're not to be fucked with and their numbers can't be cut any further?

If not, then what?

So we take from this that Mitchell didn't say pleb? You have to hand it to the conspirators, that was a brilliantly chosen made-up insult, calculated to do the maximum of damage. A perfect crime if they hadn't been busted.

Almost enough to make you feel slightly sorry for the guy. Almost.

On the other hand, he did vote for the restoration of the death penalty, so given that he isn't too keen on the principle that further evidence may come to light that can alter the original verdict, I'm sure he'll continue to accept the end of his career with good grace.

You're right, one should feel sorry for him but until you mentioned it it hadn't even crossed my mind to do so.

@PS I didn't know this before checking his wiki page, tbh. It has a list of his voting - apparently he voted pro-death penalty in 94 or something like that. Doubt he's had a change of heart. The result of the vote was something like 350-150, so he's not alone

oh right. he might have done to be fair I think that people are generally more circumspect on the issue these days (in britain at least)

is it shallow that I largely hate him because of his hair...? probably.

Only insofar as it affects the government though. They'll be able to lie and obfuscate with impunity as usual in cases involving 'ordinary' people.
