Cassette Swap Reboot

I think it might be about time we revived the idea: Ferrite Love Connection

The rules as they were in 2008:
Rule #1 : To get a tape, you must send a tape.
Rule #2 : Take your time and create something unique. You should be proud to say, "I made that tape."
Rule #3: All tracklists/artwork must be hand-lettered/-drawn/-painted/-glued/-cast. No Photoshop.
Rule #4 : Tapes must be in the mail on or before May 31, 2013
Rule #5 : If you receive a tape, you must write a review and post it either here or on the Tape Review Thread @ dissensus.com. Be honest. Criticism is the heart and soul of Dissensus.

Participants will send their tapes to a clearinghouse address (mine) and I will then distribute them. You don't get a tape until you send me one first.

Anybody interested? Let’s talk.

Shit. I didn't do my tape last time.

Sorry. So, not in this time but if anyone knows who I was supposed to do one for then pm or email me.

Fuck knows where the tape I got sent is either. It was really good though.

Yeah, I'll do one- kind of regret not doing one last time round. Best set a deadline otherwise everyone will leave it to the last minute. How about the last week of May? It'll give us one month to come up with something, best to avoid the holiday season.

When it comes to national retailers Maplin still sell tapes. Don't think Richer Sounds stock them anymore, but I did see some in a large branch of Tesco once. Or just buy a pre-recorded cassette from a charity shop and stick sellotape onto the tabs.

I'd be up for it if it didn't have to be on a cassette tape?
We allowed CDRs last time with the caveat that the art had to be spectacular.

OK, so that’s continuum, bassbeyondreason, benw, paolo, crofton, ifp, owengriffiths, and new-boy disqus. Not eden, tho; apparently he’s unreliable. ;)

May 31st sounds good to me, although who are we kidding; we’re all going to leave it to the last minute anyway.

Anyone else? If you’re on the fence, just say yes!

Speak for yourself boss, mine is done and dusted. Message me your address and I'll send it in the post.

If you're looking to get a few more people involved you could open the scheme up to other forums. DJ History.com is the kind of site whose members probably still have a tape deck close to hand. Not sure if they would appreciate receiving a posted C90 of aggy MC's taped off Deja circa 2004 but I'm assuming stuff like that won't feature on most of cassettes we make. I like the idea of these tapes being a bit weird and not necessarily focussing on the micro genres we're associated for on here.

Zhao, as much as I liked that African mix you posted a few days ago I can't help but be interested in what a tape consisting of the music you now profess to hate would sound like. You know, the northern hemisphere stuff that must make up the bulk of your vinyl collection (assuming you have one).

Jesus Christ, owen! You don't bugger around, do you.

I should probably explain at this point how this is going to work. In the past, I acted as a go-between for participants; I put all the participant’s names in a hat, drew names at random, and passed the addresses along to said participants. As many of us are dyed-in-the-wool procrastinators, this inevitably led to people who made tapes not getting tapes. This time, I’m acting as a clearinghouse; you send your tapes to me, and I distribute them. You don’t get a tape until you send one to me first. So, owen, who is far too keen, could send me his tape now, but he won’t be getting one until the next one comes in sometime in June.

Never assume when it comes to dissensians...

By all means invite anyone you think might be interested. Just please, be judicious in the disemination of my address.

I got a brilliant tape from Danny L last time which introduced me to Annette Peacock for the first time for which I am eternally grateful. He in return got 90 mins of shakily-mixed 4x4 garage from me and considering he doesn't even like house music wrote a very considerate review. I'd join in again if i wasn't totally cut off from my records and equipment nowadays.

I must admit, with the way Danny set it up last time, I was surprised to hear that someone might not have recieved a tape.

Let it be known that Mr. Eden is simply forgetful rather than unreliable.

Oh well ****phew**** then!

actually that does sound like the sort of tape I would have done.

Maybe I just forgot to write my piece on the tape I received then, which is the lesser crime. I guess.:slanted:

As you were.
