Surely not. Surely Guetta is the blandest, most homogenous example of the EDM trend. Everything in Titanium is sound-a-like; Sia sounds like Riahanna, the kick sidechained like a motherfucker, the lead sounding like every electro-house record made in the last decade. To me, there is nothing even remotely fresh about the sound of this record.

I like the song (in relative terms) - one of the melody lines really sticks in my head. I agree it sounds like Rihanna, but that's not the worst thing in the world. I'd never argue that as a record it was fresh-sounding, but there are many, many worse records under the electro-house banner imo. Have you been to a gym recently?

Agreed. However, you described it as "pretty great". Saying that it is better than the current gym fodder does not make it great.

americans just don't get dance music.
I've often wondered if it's not a mixture of culturally embedded xenophobia and puritanism that prohibits most North Americans from enjoying house and techno. Too much happiness and enjoyment in the music.

"pretty great as far as that kind of music goes" - strictly qualified. I like it anyways. Didn't the Guetta discussion happen on another thread too?

there are no accidents
a lot of the stuff I liked when was 15 sucked too, I mean. kids like terrible stuff.

with exceptions. everything i loved at age 15, Beatles, Floyd, just getting into Echo + Bunnymen, Cure, Banshees, etc, as well as 808 State and Front 242... i still like :)

Fair enough.

It's quite possible that it has indeed been discussed elsewhere on dissensus. After all, he is the face (and body) of a massive brand and publicity machine. He doesn't write, produce, or play any of his tunes, but by god, can he smile.

"EDM magically combines all worst traits of dance music - tiesto, brostep, arena house - into one package"
I like the way that Tiesto has transcended being a person and become a trait.

Its bad enough being in Europe and seeing what's going on over there. You can at least shrug and go 'stupid American kids'. I cant imagine how annoying this would be for US heads who've been involved in a scene for years. Even the horrible 90's PLUR stuff seems eminently credible in comparison.

yup.
