KAN YAY OR KAN NAY? (The Kanye West Thread)

i have arrived at my conclusions precisely because of evidence and rational thinking, nothing to do with faith. i'll admit you'll find it hard to convice me that porn is the answer to gender inequality but you can try if you like, i'm all ears.

agree that porn culture is a huge factor in this.

when you say 'the rise in feminism', what type of feminism do you mean? because the pro-porn 'sex positive', 'choice' feminism seems to be more visible at the moment than the radicals afaics (see the prostitution thread to get a little idea of what i mean).

im talking more about the things like changing gender roles, women wanting equal pay, the general 'third wave of feminism' awareness thats been in all liberal western media the last few years. tbh i havent really seen much of the sex positive, pro choice feminism you mention. and that kind of feminism, anything that encourages women to have more sex, is not likely to piss men off.

3rd wave does largely = pro-porn, 'sex positive', 'choice' feminism.

that it is not likely to piss men off is why its became so popular

I didn't say that porn was the answer to gender inequality, but there's nothing to suggest that increased sexualisation results in increased gender disparity. There may even be a correlation between increased sexualisation and increased gender equality.

This one's a review of the literature from 2009:

This article points to a number of studies on related issues:

I think a lot of men find the idea of women's sexuality outside of a monogamous relationship a lot more threatening than they like to let on.

its both a turn on and also more threatening

which basically = 'they must be punished'

Otm

It is men that are defining what womens sexuality can be. If you excuse the language, they want both their virgins and their whores too (channeling freud vía dworkin here, but i think the dichotomy holds true and is even more relevant these days)

I think they want their 'whores' to be in some sense the other or disenfranchised in some way.

It wouldn't surprise me if the idea that promiscuous women are inherently victims is a manifestation of this.

this is interesting. cant imagine there is a great upside to being exposed to it early in life though.

I'm 21, so I imagine males my age would've had their first exposure between 10-12 and maybe girls a little later.

We'll have to see what effects this might have.

That same study also suggested that being punished for porn consumption at an early age was also a causal factor of sexual crime.

It wouldn't surprise me if mainstream porn that dehumanises women is a manifestation of this.

be interesting to see how that gonzo sort of porn became the norm too.
i remember seeing porn pre-the internet.
than being surprised at the difference in what was seemingly everywhere on porn sites.

Actually, despite never visiting popular streaming sites of this sort of degrading filth, I reckon the more 'classy', 'erotic' end of things is growing much more popular. It's even described as 'female friendly' on these sites, though god knows how many women are actually watching it.

OTOH I have also noticed that a lot of the most viewed videos tend to have some sort of 'taboo' (i.e. incest) element to them, which suggests the pursuit of extremity to overcome apathy is still afoot, even if it doesn't necessarily involve puking and whips.

what a gent.

might be. hopefully. prob still niche though, compared to whatever is big on porn hub.i should check their charts or something. bizarrely i saw porn hub on newsnight the other day, as someone uploaded a video of boris under the title 'the dumbest blonde'. which apart from not actually being that newsworthy IMO, makes you wonder how pornhub got so mainstream, and how savvy/pervasive/influential the porn industry actually is.

I weep for our youth. I really do.

Of course if you criticize it you're a prude, a moraliser, an enemy of 'free choice' etc.

seriously, you cant avoid it. if you wanted porn in the 90s, you had to make effort, and it was pretty grubby. now, guys prob just go straight to hardcore porn on their phones. i would say, its prob harder to find the stuff corpsey mentioned, than something extreme.

Sure. When I used to work in a school i overheard numerous conversations between 11 year old boys about pornhub, bukkake vids they'd watched etc etc. How can this possibly have any positive effect on boys attitudes to women and sex? Not convinced that the Female friendly stuff is doing anything positive either tbh.

Did anyone see the stuff about Michael Jackson's porn collection in the news the other day? Seems to have buried in the European media with all the brexit stuff.

Lets not forget that pimps and paedofiles often show young people porn in order to groom them for sexual exploitation.

kanye, not surprisingly, is a porn fan.

“Furniture is my super-obsession now. Furniture and pornography, still. The porn thing has never left since I was in high school.”
