Half of Dissensus have had jobs in record shops in Notting Hill. It's like a MVE Old Boys network here.
it lasted literally one day. i was a naive teenager and didnt know you werent meant to take gifts from customers but this old lady gave me a coloured splatter vinyl 7" and i couldnt resist it (this was before splatter vinyl seemed to be common). was dismissed that evening. gits.

I feel like I might be working in a record shop in a world where CDs and streaming hadn't destroyed the industry.

And I feel like that about working at a music magazine, too.

i did have a few days in the proper record shop bit and there was a lot of gold under the counter. kevin martin's macro dub infection comp, which at the time was an eyeopener. i remember i had it playing and the guy who was the jazz and funk specialist (big rotund guy) listened a few seconds and told me who the drummer was.

Blue is the great personal work with the heft of emotion, raw and open to the world; Hissing is cool, languid, like Joan Didion - I listen to Hissing more but love Blue with the same fondness of first love.
I didn't spot this

You're uncancelled but on probation for trolling me

I'm listening to Blue. I think the only song I don't like much is the Last Time I saw Richard.

A couple of the peaks are fairly sadcore (River, Little Green, A Case of You) but I particularly love the faintly optimistic, sparky ones (California, Carey, All I Want).

I didn't like TLTISR as much either for a long time, but it grows on you (y)

I'm now listening to Astral Weeks to see what Luka likes about it.

Cyprus Avenue and Madame George have got me so far.

Not a fan of his voice, or at least I find it a bit of a blunt instrument compared to Joni's.

Van Morrison's voice sounds like he has a load of phlegm stuck in the back of his throat, I hate it.

Perhaps what I've heard as a bit noodly session musiciany about this album is intentionally sleazy?
