Well I am (a bit) and what works for me is:

1. Not making it central to my identity
2, Linking stuff to other things I have always liked (Drill -> Grime -> Fast chat MCs for example, but also Girls Aloud -> Soft Cell -> sixties girl bands)
3. Asking younger people about this stuff rather than lecturing them about it.
Yep this is why we're all hardcore continuum acolytes isn't it. It allows us to situate the present in the past and assure ourselves that we're following a consistent thread.

Whereas, say, a 40 year old suddenly declaring that they're into " club" can only be inauthentic and embarrassing

I've only started liking one new thing (for me) since I turned 20, and that's cricket. And that doesn't count cos old people are meant to like it.

It's weirdly important to me to keep my tastes as fixed as possible. It's the only bulwark I have against the predatory incursions of marketing hype. So if I like new stuff it has to be related to stuff I've liked for the past 20 years (eg. Amapiano)

I like inauthentic. Authentic is heideggerian fashy rubbish. There's too much authenticity in music today. get rid of emotions.

I feel terrible now. Really guilty. I'm going to congratulate him on Twitter to salve my conscience.

The rest of the country has turned itself into the chiselled Adonises you see strutting around Love island
