terrible song. The words don't fit the rhythm of the melody, and Adams' vocal performance steamrollers over any nuance or sentimentality suggested by the trite lyrics - he has no sense of sweetness or nostalgia, he just bellows. The music itself is a tracing of a stadium-rock template, all bombast and no humility or humanity. Nothing about it feels real or familiar or relatable - it's just cliches and tropes that were already exhausted in the 80s, never mind 30+ years later.
This is brilliant

There's something achingly poignant about the melody/harmony of "that summer seemed to last forever". If I had a musicology degree I could explain it.

I hate it when people pretend they had a good summer once. Did you fuck. A good afternoon is believable, not a whole summer

But the point is that as it recedes into the past it becomes a good summer. And what's more, it seems like it seemed to last forever.

I had good summers around ages 13-15. big part of that was being old enough to interact with girls often but still young enough to have each interaction be life changing

my favourite summer was 1998. Old enough to have thoughts and opinions but young enough to not be at high school. "Horny" and "Needin' U" on the radio all the time. Getting really good at Sonic 2 and being allowed to go to the park with my pals and no parents.
