kartel's tenderness in the face of enormity; the tacky majesty of the strings. sweet and mourning all at once. poignant. kartel as woman. he becomes his own camille.

i like that croaking, sawing sound in the verses. like a crocodile with an electric toothbrush.

apparitional melodies through earthly voice. sedimentic phonetics. his vocal timbre like soil.

the cry of a mother losing her child. of a man lost at sea. the riddim sounds like a titanic, oak ship. weathering the storm to discover the new world.

similar emotional tone to that kartel one, more aspirational though. that aspiration reflects popcaan's dumbness; there's an emotional sophistication lacking. a vulnerability without the poignance. like a child covered in spaghetti hoops. he needs protection and guidance, but not for any reason informed by pathos. he's like scooby doo. "bus boy head very often". nigerian dinner lady disheveled hair.

the riddim is really gorgeous. scope. blue skies. the top of a mountain on a crisp, sunny day. triumph after defeat.

the sentimentality you feel after arriving home at 5 in the morning after a night out.

unrequited love.

This sort of post is my platonic ideal for COTD. Most, including me, have never attained that, because it's exhausting. But I never really listen to choons without accompanying text. Needs a lure.

Here's me being lazy. But this is a good tune to be lazy to, as I discovered in Munich the other day.

There's something so German about this but I don't know what exactly.

Cheeky to allow myself, the king of this thread, two in a day?

Anyway, this is supoib and I'd never heard it before my holiday.

Techno's supposed to be iconic. This is a swiss army knife. My real top 100 would be full of similar tunes.

Na. That's more like E2:E4 of techno. Uplifting dark and futuristic.

I'd have loads of Hood on there too. But synthpop techno along the lines of Freeez I'd have Model 500 stuff like The Chase.

no mate we have to stop with this Juan stuff.

undoubtedly he made some pathbreaking machine soul music but the real gangsta was kevin saunderson. he is the g to which we set our compasses. cussed out by the other 2 for being into gay disco, which makes his music even more striking. this is the dissensus line. forget woebot's detroit cannon, his disco mix on mixcloud is mostly whiteboy shit.

then its eddie flashin foulkes, anthony shakir, and mother fucking Jay Denham and Black Nation records. detroit as paranoid vacuum funk, the 2nd wave.

There used to be a channel in Oxfordshire, I think it might have been called the Oxford Channel, or something equally as imaginative, and not having the internet or Sky TV, I would videotape videos off it to watch at leisure. Needless to say, me being a teenager, I generally was after videos that were sexually provocative. Holly Valance was a big favourite, and Rachel Stevens.

A truly awful period in British pop (remember Big Bruvaz?), but also the era of the rise of FIDDY. This video had a lot of nice birdz in it but it's also a timeless banger, one of the few legitimate club bangers Mobb Deep ever had.

The nightclub in this video is where the teenage me dreamed of going to. Of course in reality I'd have been scared shitless, especially of the women.

Great choon though.
