K-Punk

I do feel physically disgusted by this kind of 'concerned' handwringing.

I thought it was going to be about the blogs. Stuff like, isn't it funny that Mark found himself interacting with Woebot for instance. What an odd couple. Hilarious to think about. But as Craner says that has all been airbrushed from history

One of the things I liked about Simons lecture is it was about a Mark I could actually recognise

I see that post-2005 is now Canonical K-Punk.

Yes there is a weird gap between CCRU and 2005..... which includes Dissensus being set up in 2004 and the first burst of blogging / Reynolds' early pre-blogging website etc.

And Woebot as Luka says.

I think crucially this gap also includes a bunch of people taking the piss out of Mark - as well as him interacting with people who would definitely not fit into the later K-Punk nexus.

Paul Meme being part of the K-Punk blog cru for example, is almost impossible to believe now. (I mean - as a listed contributor on the masthead!)

And you John. You were there. And Craner. Are you still friends with Paul Meme? You were a double act in those days

But you're exactly right. That was when he was talking to us lot who would Never have dreamed of treating him like a guru or an authority. He was just one of us. Some weirdo who cared to much about records

Exactly - Paul and I very much turned up together - I think I showed him Reynolds' site and he showed me Woebot's.

Still very much very good friends but don't see each other so much since he moved to Sheffield, the traitor.

Plus he insists on still obsessing about garage/140/2step in his 50s which is just undignified if you ask me.

It is a bit odd that dissensus is not mentioned. Dissensus is like the wrong older sibling or something, disowned, airbrushed out.

I quite like that. I remain proud and a bit embarrassed that this place wasn’t quite what he was hoping for.

Also I think that there is another thing that will probably happen about that early blogging scene and we will all need to resist efforts to reduce it to Mark and Reynolds and the ones who did books.

Yeah probably a good thing as much as a bad thing. 'Not quite what I was hoping for, to be honest' seems to be a good strapline for dissensus.
