you're fine. it was an emtional response while i was in a very suggestible state induced by drugs. allow me.
Consider it forgotten

gonna leave that 1st post up cos ugliness is a legit area of potential investigation, but I'll delete the 2nd one

Kinda miss zhao on here
I think I do and then I really think about it and I don't

It's the kinda thing you look back on fondly but was pretty miserable at the time

I do admit some of his classic threads - Black Athena! - are among the most memorable

It's all very late 00s/early teens

ugliness is a avenue for investigation but as has been noted
it is one which makes me extremely squeamish and jams
my instruments in quite a nasty way. it jams my signal.

That's fair

Tbc Im not/wasn't trying to set off an ugliness thing

Just illustrate my case to blissblogger

I do think there's a crucial distinction between ugliness as tool to make a point and an aesthetic of ugliness

Definitely not trying to force you to discuss Carcass lyrics or whatever

just trying to explain what i was reacting to. i can hit a field of interference and static. as i say, my signal gets jammed in a very nasty way. and a lot of this stuff does that to me.
i think that can be discussed without the need for listening to anything! just as a thing.
the ugly. the gross. the putrescent. i mean, it's sort of obvious why i don't like it isn't it?
it's gross! and i can't help feeling that it has to do with attitudes toward the female.(i mean, of course it does. that's obvious)

Sometimes for sure, not always

It's a complicated topic like anything - there are women (and non-binary people, etc) into gross, putresecent things. Not that absolves them but it's more complex than that

In the case of the hardcore above - it's not gross ugly, it's harsh ugly - state violence state control, victims of a bomb raid, etc

That gross side is more classic death metal - rotting, splatter, decomposing dead things

Again tho we don't have to pursue this

I get a visceral turn-off, ofc it's a valid reaction

My only problem was writing it all off as worthless but you've recanted that and ofc I'm sympathetic to drug states of mind

im happy to have the discussion. i guess just on a visceral level i find all the names of the groups and so on a problem. the whole thing. like, i sort of don't feel i need a micro-engagement with this! i can happily discuss it at the next level of abstraction up.

Putresecent is a good word

There's actually a whole (pointless) subfield of grindcore devoted to abstract expression of grotesque medical terminology

sorry, i'll play the game too. i will play the game i know i got some waiting. but it does rather beg the question of what are we wanting from the people we nominate?

surely the aim is to shake up some pattern which is threatening to rigidify. so these have to be angled at that place where the membrane can be popped and something new can enter. what can i show any of you through music that you might need? we're not trying to force our own subjectivities on people. "you should like what i like." "why can't you expereince what i experience when i intersect with this event?" and we don't want the reassuring confirmation of our own biases

most of the time i can't think up any for people that i think would do any good. that might provide some useful friction.

i just don't want pattycakes and barty to start bonding over minor fifths and arppegiated quaver-notes and leave me over here all on my own.

pattycakes i had barty round just now and we listened to that tune and we were talking about how footwork is the only music since jungle to explore the use-limit of speed.
