AMSR

It must be more than white noise though... There's always purpose in there. Someone taking care of something and you're comforted by the presence, or the signal of that care?

my experience is mostly just white noise. I can put a Youtube video on and feel it but it's stronger if I'm out, in the wild, and someone unexpectedly turns on a lawnmower or hair dryer, it's like an instant warm glow. It feels like the second before you get a shiver, but prolonged, warm and cold at the same time, there's nothing like it.

Those noises are all someone taking care of something aren't they? Even if its a stranger or they;re recorded, it might trigger stuff from when you were young. Do you get it if it's just a machine whirring away, an animal, cars on a motorway?

machines whirring away yes, animals no because all animals are disgusting, vehicles sometimes but not the same immediate and glowing sensation

'Care' might be better substituted for 'command' or something. There's plenty of ASMR that's just the ruffling of fingers on a mic or shifting of papers that isnt so easily called 'care', but that the maker seems in control of their own little compartmentalized zone seems important

But the care is still there cos they’re making the vid for your tingles no? Doing things carefully, caringly

I'm not particularly receptive to ASMR, but I do feel it. Mukbang seems to overlap and perhaps departs with regards to care

Mukbang seems to play more into the taboo that I think is present in ASMR- theres a little taboo in all intimacy. Mukbang is certainly more pornographic, though I dont know if people are supposed to derive sexual pleasure from it

Mukbang is a more explicit substitute. I can see why you’re linking the two because both mukbang and ASMR videos are used to give a specific effect...of social connectedness (I think, even if some people don’t know that’s what they’re looking for)

You could say ASMR virtually recreates physical touch

That’s a bit wank tho init. Why do we read? Social connectedness! Music? Social connectedness! Films? Sex?

thats interesting but let’s forget the videos exist and go back to before we all found each other on the internet. What’s the Tingle feeling about? Why does it happen?

There are certain sensations that arent touch based but do prime the body for an incoming touch. These arent always sexual but the examples that most immediately come to mind are from sexual scenarios.

Well shit maybe they are touch based, but just in its slightest form. I don't know. To really go out on a limb, the tingles from ASMR could be said to stand in for the touch those sounds typically accompany- breath on your skin, the hairs on your limbs just barely being grazed and etc.
